This would give you 5l of 20% base. A vodka/gin flavouring could be added to it or you could just use some fruit/juice/jam in the ferment to impart fruit flavour.0 -
Ive just made some vanilla vodka. For mine used one vanilla pod split lengthways to about 1l of vodka. Touch of sugar, leave in a dark place to brew for a month shaking regularly.
I must say its delicious and very easy to drink. Enjoy0 -
Mmm .. hadn't thought of doing a vanilla vodka. Do you drink it on it's own or with a mixer?0

The way I do it is to microwave the berries for a few mins to release the juices, mash them, stir in the sugar and get it dissolved, let it cool, then put this plus the vodka into a large sealed jar (a demijohn will do - half-sized one if you have one). Leave for a month in a cool dark place, then strain.

Hi LameWolf - I tend to make sloe-vodka (instead of sloe gin), do you think the microwave method would work for the sloes as well? Sounds a lot easier than piercing all the little sloes with a pin which is what I have done so far.....
Great tip anyway, we usually have a raspberry glut so raspberry vodka will definitely be on my list to make this autumn."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Hi
We have been making Sloe gin/vodka for a couple of years.
We were told by an "old hand" just to put all the sloes in a carrier bag in the freezer for 3-5 days and theres no need to pierce them as they burst their skins due to freezing-much quicker and its worked brilliantly hope that helps someone.

Recipe for fruit liqueur given to me by a friend.
For every 1lb of fruit (cut up) you add half a pound of sugar and a pint of spirit. Place in screw top jar/kilner jar/demijohn, leave 4 - 6 weeks, giving it a gentle shake or turn every day. Strain and bottle. Ideal for Christmas presents.
Strawberry vodka is nice, so is raspberry bacardi. Can also use lemons and gin/vodka to make a limoncello type thing. One life - your life - live it!0 -
I've made plenty of rhubarb vodka this year, it's fantastic.0

Saw how to do this somewhere... and fancy giving it a go..
Want to keep the plums - not plum flovoured brandy.. so you can actually eat the plums..
Any ideas?
Also, any tried and tested recipes for plum vodka - seen a few different ones.. was gonna just go with usual fuit, sugar and vodka, but seem some where you heat first0 -
anyone ??0

I've got some cherry vodka on the go atm. I simply layered the cherries with sugar between each layer then poured the vodka on top.
Oh, and I pricked the cherries first, using a corn on the cob fork.
It looks pretty good so far. Deep red. Shall give it a taste in a couple of weeks to see if it needs any more sugar.0
