Well it's 1 week since our new arrival and it's behaving very well. It's quiet, no mess and no extra work, yes we have had the usual visitors - family and friend have been round to see it and DS and DD act as if it's always been here. We are really proud of it. it is everything we could have hoped for and I'm sure the excess pounds gained will soon come off. Bread has never tasted so good!!!!:hello:there's me, OH, DS 10, DD 7,

Good news - I'm really glad you are happy with your BM.
Our Home Bargains had bags of mixed seed (pumpkin/sesame, etc.) for <40p. Using the raisin program, I added 3.5 tbsp via the raisin hopper to a 100% white loaf, and it was really delicious.
Regards,

Thanks white, I will put this on my 'to do' list. I used to treat myself to a sunflower and linseed (I think) Burgen loaf, didn't think to try and devise one myself.:hello:there's me, OH, DS 10, DD 7,

Hi,
I am looking into buying a bread maker too. Which one is the most recommended one?
Before you asked..... I tried making bread myself before, it never worked out. I also am quiet busy with my two DS under three, so not much time to get some decent bread on the table.
Any recommendations are appriciated.
Thanks a bunch

The best & Rolls Royce one is Panasonic, they are not cheap & you will find many cheaper ones
But, in this case you really really do get what you pay for, great bread every time
Just do search on Panasonic & read all about itEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I love this thread and have read it from start to finish
I think over the years that I have been making my own bread I have had three bread machines and only replaced them when they have worn out.At the moment I am using an Anthony Worrall Thompson one and its great it has all the features of the Panasonic one.But I have to admit to being a bit of a wimp and have never used the Jam or the Cake baking features. But I regularly use the Pasta and Pizza dough one and my kids couldnt live without their toasted currant bread in a morning. So on the whole I think my BM's have earned their keep and when my latest one goes to bread machine heaven I will probably try one of the Panasonic ones for no better reason than everyone on here raves about them and I'm just plain nosey lol.So for anyone waivering about buying one of these dont they are brilliant pieces of kit and invaluable to anyone who enjoys home cooked bread

I've just got my Panasonic SD253 and I've got a few questions about the recipes. Looking at the wholemeal recipes, it says add vitamin c powder, is this necessary?
Also how needed is the milk powder and by milk powder does it mean powdered milk?:o{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -

Hi,
In my opinion, the vitamin C is not essential (although I always add some), as most "quick" yeasts have it already. (I bought vitamin C powder from a health food stall on a market - has lasted at least 2 years).
I always use ordinary dried skimmed milk powder for my bread - again not essential, or so I have read. I buy a big drum from somewhere like Aldi, and split that into several jars to avoid too much air/moisture getting to the bulk supply.
I think you could experiment by leaving both of these items out, but I have them, and do use them.
Hope that helps,
Regards,

Years ago my SIL persuaded me to buy a breadmaker. Not knowing what I was doing I bought a fairly cheap model, and I have to be honest, it's not that great.
I was persuaded by this forum to give it another go, and bought the panasonic 254 from John Lewis as it was £69.95 with free delivery - I used my Christmas present money from my dad.
It's fabulous. I made my first loaf at the weekend and we really enjoyed it. It had a lovely texture and it kept well.0
