sorry if i have put this in the wrong section
but can someone please tell me if i went and bought a bread maker and made my own bread does it work out cheaper then buying bread from the shop at £1.00 a loaf
thanks lisamy debt free date is finally March 20090 -
Yes. I have a panasonic 23xx thingy and it makes fantastic bread. I reckon it costs about 35p a loaf as I use the higher priced flour etc. And there's no wastage. Whereas I was buying 3 loaves a week (at a total cost of around £3.60) I am now making around 4 loaves a week at a total cost of around £1.40 per week.
Plus, it tastes nicer, has no additives and has freed up space in my freezer (where I used to store at least 2 loaves) for other stuff.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

i was thinking of buying this one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4229399/Trail/searchtext%3EBREAD+MAKER+.htm
do you think this price is ok ?

Hiya,
my breadmaker died (well, ok, I confess... I did it!... I killed her :wall:). She got knocked off my (wide!) windowsill when I cleaning
Anyway, not so much through choice, I have started bread making by hand and it's really easy. With my recipe (from bbc goodfood) you only have one 1 hr rise and then it's into the oven.
It definately works out cheaper and it's much more filling than the shop bought stuff which has been pumped full of god knows what to make it rise and stay fresher, etc.

i tryed making bread by hand and it just didnt work. i was thinking a bread maker cause it would make my life easier plus it cost alot less in the long run instead of pay for shop bread plus shop bread never seems to last so if i do my own then i no how much i need to do and so no wastage

I have no experience of the breadmaker from argos that you're looking at Lisa so can't comment. I would, though, suggest you go for the most expensive you can afford. The more expensive ones have better options and are likely to be much better quality.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Totally understand.
I had a Morphy Richards one. Can't remember the exact name. I got it from LX Direct when a lot of us from here got it for £14.99. I know a lot of people rave about the panasonic and I would have loved to have gotten one but I couldn't justify the price and the MR was more than capable for what I needed at the time
For some reason, my computer is really slow a the moment and I can't see the link you posted. I would have a really good look around and see what you can get for the money you have available. Try kelkoo and put in breadmakers. I would've done it for you, but it'd take me too blooming long

tight budget at the moment thats why i said that one as im going to buy a slow cooker aswell cause after what i have been reading it works out alot cheaper cause with the slow cooker i can just get one of them veg packs and then a couple of slices of meat
and the bread maker im disscuted at home much i really spend on shop breadmy debt free date is finally March 20090 -
Tell me about it. If I'm buying bread, I don't buy the really cheap stuff which is really just air and it does cost a fortune.
Go for itI really can't recommend getting a slow cooker enough. It's my current favourite 'gadget'.
Something else I've just thought of is going round car boot sales
as people buy things and then never use them, lol. It might not be for you (it's not my favourite thing to do, but lots of people recommend it - especially if money is tight)

Hi lisababy,
This older thread may help you work out whether a breadmaker would cut costs for you:
