Years ago my SIL persuaded me to buy a breadmaker. Not knowing what I was doing I bought a fairly cheap model, and I have to be honest, it's not that great.

I was persuaded by this forum to give it another go, and bought the panasonic 254 from John Lewis as it was £69.95 with free delivery - I used my Christmas present money from my dad.

It's fabulous. I made my first loaf at the weekend and we really enjoyed it. It had a lovely texture and it kept well.

This same breadmaker is £39.99 on Amazon UK :j Ordered one and can't wait to bake.
  • You can also go through pigsback at the moment and get 2 points per pound so an extra 78p off I think.
  • just got my 1st breadmaker yesterday ,I got the panasonic because everyone said it was the best ,it did seem like a bit of an extravegance £80 and I was worried in case it didnt come up to scratch but I neednt have worried cos it fabulous.
baked 2 white loaves so far and trying a wholemeal loaf today.
the price of bread has shot through the roof in the last few months so I reckon the machine will of payed for itself in 6 months or so.

    I just ordered this!
Can't wait to try it after all the rave reviews on here.
It's a pressie to me and hubby from my mum (hubby WILL be thrilled! lol)
Just a thought for the poster who bought it from John Lewis - they have a price promise, don't know if it includes online prices, but might be worth a go....

I've ordered one for £40 from Amazon. I've been hankering after the SD255 for so long, but the deal on the SD254 is so good, I couldn't turn it down. I'll just have to listen out for a beep if I want to add sunflower seeds etc to my loaf (OH wants bits of bacon!)

I've spent ages looking at Lakeland to look for bread accessories, as the coupons board has £10 off a £25 spend (although it is £3.95 p&p) and trying to think if I actually NEED anything. Our bread bin is useless and bread goes stale quickly, so I was thinking about a Lock and Lock bread box, which others on here rave about. I was also thinking about buying a big packet of yeast as the little sachets are so expensive. I'm trying to work out if the Carr's breadmixes are worth it, or if I should just buy strong bread flour.

I'm so excited for yummy granary and seeded loaves!

Clutterfree- I would double check, I think JL took internet offers off their price match promise a couple of years ago, but I could be wrong (don't tell OH that- I'm ALWAYS right!)

I am going to wait for the sales and then buy a breadmaker.

I am looking to go for a panasonic too.

But, does anyone knows a recipe book, witch just uses normal ingredients, eg no milk powder etc?

    Thanks egon

    Hello,

I hope it's ok to ask this question here as it's a bit random. I managed to get a BM from freecycle and am a bit confused or maybe I am just being a bit thick!! The ingredients in the recipe book are given for a 1.5lb loaf but the settings on the BM are for 750g, 1kg and then 1.5kg.. Am I just missing the obvious?

my mum has a bread maker, one of those great machines that gets loads of use to begin with - 2 years on she had used it twice in the last year !! it sits on the side and is wiped over in kitchin clean once a week !! only a matter of time before it is passed on to me as it gets in the way (already have space cleared in the cupboard!!)

    1.5lb should be a 750g loaf.
