Also as you will find out there are often differences in opinion between consultant (medicalised) and midwives about VBAC (vaginal birth after c section) and VBAC water births. I suggest that you contact AIMS who produce some good info or MIDIRS who produce some good evidence based leaflets that can help you make an informed decision.

Thank you, because at the minute I really do not know what to do...........I keep thinking I will think about it later......but time ticks on and I have so much conflicting advice! :D

emsy, glad to see its not just me having issues with midwives. I am supposedly high-risk for Downs (because of family history) and they did 3 scans to try do the nuchal measurement but baby wasn't playing ball. So...I was supposed to have a midwife appointment at 15 weeks to do the triple test. I got in touch with my midwife who said she was going on holiday and would call me when she got back. Still no call and Im nearly 18 weeks.

I suppose it doesnt really matter as I won't be doing anything even if the baby has downs....it would just have been nice to know. :(

I know, you and I are just a few days apart, I know the midwives are stretched, and pregnancy is not an illness etc etc, but I feel like such an inconvenience to mine

Sorry. It just stresses me out. Does anyone know the intervals you are supposed to have midwive appointments? After the booking in one that is x

I believe one at 14-16 weeks to discuss the blood results etc? That's the one we've both missed.

Is this the results from the bloods that were taken at at 12 week scan appointment? Well, they must be. I havn't had any other blood tests! OOO, thats something I wanted to ask. How can I find out what blood group I am? Will it be in my maternity notes? I'm only concerned because my Dad is a very rare group and If I am his then I would atleast like to know. Also, when do they tell you about being + and - and if you need any treatment?

Ive just remembered loads of questions I have and don't have anyone to ask :( Boohoo. Also, at my 20 week scan, will It just be a scan or will it involve more blood tests and wee-wee tests and a discussion with midwife etc like at the 12 week scan?

heartbeat - some MW won't check it around 16 weeks as it can be difficult to find and they don't want to worry you if they can't find it. I doubt very much a practice nruse would do it - GP practices don't tend to keep dopplers on the premises, it's something the MW carries around with her.

Sam - if your MW is on holiday there must be someone covering. If you have questions then write them on a post it note and stick it to the front of your notes so you have it when you go along to your appointment.

Things are different all over the country but you should expect to have
    booking in appointment with bloods
    dating scan (12 weeks)
16 week appointment (triple/quardriple test if you're having it, I didn't so didn't have the appointment)
    20 week anamoly scan
Then it's generally every 4 weeks from 20 weeks until about 36 and then they might want to see you more often.
All depends on your risk level - I had fortnightly checks from 30 weeks because I developed Gestational Diabetes.

As for blood group - all your blood results are generally printed off and put into your maternity notes

Generally - and I only say generally - No news is good news. So if you haven't heard anything about test results, bloods then in all probability they are within the normal range. The 20 week scan is just that a scan and no antenatal. Again there might be a drop in available. Ring unit to see.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Good idea about the post-its, il do that from now on.
I have one mobile number for the midwife and her phone is never on. When I had my scan at 12 weeks and 13 weeks, the midwives and nurse who did my bloods didn't know who my midwife was. They even asked where I had found her!

I'll express my concerns at the 20 week scan and see if anything happens.

I had a call from a midwive about 3 weeks ago saying my suspected dodgy chromosome wasn't dodgy so that was okay, but havn't heard anything else. Im not even sure what the tests were for.

ring the community midwife team - you can get through to them by ringing the switchboard at your local hospital where they will be based.

They are there to help and advise so don't worry about ringing them!

The local hospital has 2 numbers for the antenatal department, neither of which are in use. I have been trying to phone them for the last 3 or 4 weeks to let them know of my change of address and every time I can't get through. I have the personal telephone number of a specialist midwife who deals with blood enquires so I phone her and ask her to put me through every time but the reception desk rarely answer. She recognises me now and says she will find out whats going on with the original numbers, but there is nothing yet.

    Yes, its ridiculous.
