Midwife question

I ahve posted this on the preggers board, but it moves so quickly it might get lost,:rotfl: and I am a little worried
Hi all, after a bit of midwife advice..............
I first saw mine at 6 weeks, then I tried to make my 16 week appt when I was 13 weeks, could not fit me in til I was 17 weeks, somewhere along the line I thought it was today, apparently it was yesterday, just phoned surgery and she now cannot see me til I am nearly 21 weeks.
My only concern with this is that I am overweight (was before pregnant) and had high BP with DD 7 years ago.I was also regularly checked for gestational diabetes. I am drinking more and having nosebleeds, which I now know can be totally normal, but I just wanted a quick wee/BP check, and am wondering if another 3 weeks is a problem? Should I try to make a nurse appt in the meantime, or do I just sound like a paranoid preggers woman :rotfl:

Personally, I would make an appt with the nurse - at least it would be peace of mind and put your mind at rest. You would only need a quick 10 min appt for BP and urine check. hth.0

The wee and BP isn't too bad at this stage, HOWEVER if you wanted the triple test done to give you your risk for Downs Syndrome it needs to be done prior to 18 weeks and 1 day
I'd give the antental clinic at the hospital a ring or ring the community midwives direct rather than speaking to the receptionist at the GP, you may not be able to get a legitamate spot in clinic but they could fit you in or do a home visit. (I take it you made the appointment for 17 weeks just wrote the date down wrong)0 -
Gosh yes,
It sounds like you could be veering towards the "higher risk" pregnancy and if you were one of my ladies I would want to see you sooner rather than later!
Phone the GP that the midwife is attached to and explain the problem - someone should fit you in this week,
good luck xxxxxx0 -
Is there a drop-in service available? There should be something available. The new guidelines do have fewer visits in second pregnancy and there are long gaps in between particularly at this stage. If you got concerns re your health either find and attend drop in (ring maternity unit for info) or attend your GP who can do antenatalI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
There should be a contact number for your Midwife - either ask the surgery or ring the ante-natal ward and ask for Community Midwives.
They generally aren't there as they are out in clinic but leave a message and someone will call you back.
Waiting until 21 weeks doesn't sound ideal, but next time I'd probably try and book the appointment earlier as the obviously book up quite quickly.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea
Where does the time go? :think:0 -

Then I want to one of your ladies :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
not sure about MW anyway........she asked me about birth plan at 6 weeks, told her I liked the idea of water birth but not sure if I could ave one as previous C section.........she told me to "stop being daft, of course I could" but then consultant was horrified at this suggestion a couple of week later at hosp appt *shruggy shoulders*
Have called and a nurse is going to squeeeeeeeze me in later this morning
DD is coming, and desperate to hear the heartbeat (she personally thinks I'm just chubbier, I think she wants proof, as I was not given a scan photo as technician said "I printed a few off, but they were not good enough!!)
I assume nurse will not check HB?0 -

She might but if she is not trained to find the fetal heart and cant find it how worried would you be? Again the guidelines discourage listening to the FH at this stage although if asked I would listen in. Glad you got an appointment.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

emsy, glad to see its not just me having issues with midwives. I am supposedly high-risk for Downs (because of family history) and they did 3 scans to try do the nuchal measurement but baby wasn't playing ball. So...I was supposed to have a midwife appointment at 15 weeks to do the triple test. I got in touch with my midwife who said she was going on holiday and would call me when she got back. Still no call and Im nearly 18 weeks.
I suppose it doesnt really matter as I won't be doing anything even if the baby has downs....it would just have been nice to know.

Also as you will find out there are often differences in opinion between consultant (medicalised) and midwives about VBAC (vaginal birth after c section) and VBAC water births. I suggest that you contact AIMS who produce some good info or MIDIRS who produce some good evidence based leaflets that can help you make an informed decision.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
