I have just received a call advising that there are 2 jobs going at my old employer and do I want to go for any of them!!!! I really don't know what to do! I will still get my redundancy as I won't be starting until the end of the month and my redundancy kicks in on the 17th but it means I have to go back full-time and I won't get the summer off. I'm stunned plus I sold most of work clothes at a car boot sale the other week!!

I walked into another job when I got made redundant a long time ago, looking back I probably should have waited and done something I really wanted for a few months but in the end it was a great job for a number of years and the payoff last year has put me into a possition I can consider never working again.

If not sure, why not look at the jobs and ask for more money, holidays, later start date, etc, you can always do the job for a year and take next summer off.

Well since my earlier post I have been offered more hours for a firm I had dealings with.

Quite surprised at my reaction, at first I nearly turned it down but accepted after they convinced me they needed me. I am enjoying my time off so much I don't really want to work again, but at 40 I need to.

Spoilt my plans somewhat but hey, its a job!

I took voluntary redundancy last june from a civil srvice job I'd been in for over 20years and its been a great year although now my pay out has dwindled im looking for actively for a new job im prepared to apply for all sorts of roles as i still dont know what I want to do (i'm only 42!) I just know what I dont want to do i.e be a civil servant again! I've spent my year off redecorating and re furnishing my house and going on holidays (could never afford them previously as i've raised my 15 year old daughter alone) and just generally enjoyed the freedom of having money for once in my life ! If money was no problem I'd probably choose not to work again but alas i have got too!!

Totally de stressed now, in fact I feel sorry for people who are in a job they hate but only do it for the money. they will see the light one day.

many never see the light and spend their lives doing souless boring work, seems a huge waste of a life :(

  • My husband was made redundant in Mar 09, finally found a new job in August. He loved it! He took on the parenting role and I went part-time temp. Basically he tells everyone he had the summer off playing with the kids :) He will admit that the job came along at the right moment though, being full-time Daddy was starting to wear a little thin I think ;)

All i can say is that most of the replies are so lucky. DH facing redundancy again-already 4 times. Not in a job long enough for any pebsion etc. Mortgage will never be paid off. Obviously no savings !!! Being unemployed is not fun for a lot of us.

Yes, 4 times is a lot. Hope your DH finds something soon.

At the end of the day, all any of us wants is a chance to earn a few quid to support our families and save a bit for the future.
