Who has been made redundant and is enjoying the time off?

Me, twice. Once last March after having worked for a company for 20 years, luckily found another job to walk straight in to, left that job started one in December and got made redundant after six weeks, luckily (again) immediate release with 3 months pay (non-taxed) and then walked straight in to another job in Switzerland. Never got a single day off between any of the three jobs I left last year, didn't go quite as I planned in that respect.:(0

Made redundant in April; enjoyiong time of up to a point.....some savings so am okay for a few months.
But - planning to get married, which puts a new spiin on things.
Hopefully I will sort a new role out in the next month or so.0 -
Not really. Made redundant end of April with minimum payout of two weeks pay. I did quite enjoy the freedom and the chance to rest for the first couple of weeks but now I'm dying to get back to work. I need a challenge, a task to keep my mind working and the ones I set for myself don't really have the same effect! Even the voluntary work I've signed up for is taking ages to get going as I wait for CRBs etc.0

I guess it depends
- how old you are - are you old enough to decide to pack it in?
- how much of a redundancy payment are you getting
- do you have other savings/investments
- have you paid off your mortgage
- are you renting (and can thus fall back on HB)
- how confident are you of getting another job
- are you young enough to consider a complete career change
- can you start your own business
- do you have debts
and so on. For some it will be the final signal that the ratrace is over and a chance to "downsize" or the kick in the rear needed to make a complete career change or start a business. For others it can be the start of a nightmare which could result in loss of their house, family breakup, bankruptcy or worse.0 -
Loving my time off, made redundant last August.
Doing an occasional shift for a firm I had dealings with. Not sure I want to work full time again.
Totally de stressed now, in fact I feel sorry for people who are in a job they hate but only do it for the money. they will see the light one day. I keep my self sane by reading and pottering around the house and garden.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
At first when the company I worked for went bust and I got made redundant I thought it was the end of the world!! I was devastated and didn't know what to do with myself, but I kept in touch with old clients I worked with and have gradually become self employed doing work for them. Its still early days but I'm enjoying the freedom of working for myself, the challenge of finding some new clients and still having a bit of time to take up new activities that I've always wanted to do but didn't have time when in full time work.

I got laid off at the end of April. It was ok for a couple of weeks but now the novelty has worn off and I'm fed up. :wall:
I've hoovered the pattern of the carpet whislt waiting for the phone to ring with interview offersCabin fever isn't fun.
But, I'm going to find out tomorrow if I am successful for a part time job, so keeping everything crossed for that.
Good luck to everybody who's trying to get on and find something before they lose their sanity. I have just received a call advising that there are 2 jobs going at my old employer and do I want to go for any of them!!!! I really don't know what to do! I will still get my redundancy as I won't be starting until the end of the month and my redundancy kicks in on the 17th but it means I have to go back full-time and I won't get the summer off. I'm stunned plus I sold most of work clothes at a car boot sale the other week!!0

Wasn't made redundant - but did get a pay off in March. Am loving the time off especially as the weather has been lovely. I've traveled around SE Asia for 6 weeks too. But...am running out of money so will have to find work in a month or so.....
