Morgan, when you ask for advice you have 2 options, take it or ignore it.

Don't blame folks on here if you have found a 3rd one, ie, totally object to it, and I still don't think you are too smart, :kisses3::kisses2:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I pretty sure I've explained this more than enough times but I'll do it once more just for you

I get the car, keep it for between 2-3 years, nope don't get it serviced mainly because I cant be arsed. Never had a problem with the warranty. In fact My Fiesta broke down last Octobober, it was just over 2 years old. Ford Assist sorted it, including a curtosy car and i didn't pay a penny.
Didn't seem to have a problem then
After how everymany years I take the car back to dealer, I 'give the car back' OWING NOTHING!!! Forgot dealer offering a 'very low price' I get what the outstanding finance is. No carrying over what i owe onto next finance package
The car is always worth around the same or a little less than what I already owe so therfore I'm not losing money
I don't get why you people have such a problem with that???!

    It's beyond simple!

Like i said before. My question was obviously worded incorrectly. Too much for some of you to understand

your just a typical woman, too busy shouting about how your always right.
maybe its time you !!!!!! and actually listened to what folk are telling you here. only then will it be worth anyone else adding to this thread.

I do believe though that the OP never once asked peoples opinions on whether or not she should trade in her car re-finance whatever she merely asked for advice on the cost effectiveness of cars and which would be best for fuel efficiency etc.

And quite frankly the line 'your just a typical woman' is one of THE most sexist chauvinistic things i have heard for a long time!!!!!!
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.

but the point being, why does the op worry about a few quid of extra fuel when they are re financing thousands of pounds? it makes absoloutly no sense.

it may come across chauvinistic but im afraid it is a stereotypical woman thing to do. spend thousands to save a few quid, when really they arent interested in saving the money, its just a poor excuse to buy something new and shiney at any cost.
the op being a student with a child moaning about how much fuel a fiesta uses is hardly in a strong financial position,so the best option is to keep current car, take some time and look after it and it will look after them, then in a few years car will be paid off with no finance owing and they then own the car with no more payments. after 3 years cars don't suddenly fall to bits, over the course of 5 years i doubt that fiesta would cost £500 per year in maintenance, and im including tyres, brakes exhaust when needed in that.

I must admit I cannot fully understand why you want to spend hundreds if not thousands of £'s paying interest on something you are never going to fully own...

The car you have right now, unless you drive it like a 15 year old on a joyride, is one of the most economical cars out there. The tax will be in one of the lowest brackets, and it is common as muck so parts can be bought in bulk and sold on to the end user much cheaper. Servicing (should you ever plan to get this done  ) is very cheap (you can get an oil filter and new oil (castrol semi-synth) done for you for £30 for christ sake).

And the person that mentioned they want a reliable car that when they come out in the morning it wont just die - 99% cars nowadays do not do this. They do this because they have been poorly maintained or the owner has either ignored or been oblivious/ignorant of the signs of something failing which then leads to the inevitable 'breakdown'. But even then, £9 (using a cashback website) will get you AA/RAC breakdown cover for an entire year.

I do a bit of motorway driving too.

I'm happy to pay a premium for peace of mind. Its almost like the way people are happy to pay an insurance premium for the peace of mind.

I would be really stressed about reliabily, sometimes I have to be at meetings the other side of the county, I don't need to find my car won't start. Public transport is not really an option.

Oh & I am a bit ignorant of the workings of cars.

Yes it's chauvinistic and it's certainly not stereotypical as I know more men who do this than women - and no they're not all fleet drivers :p

Morgan, when you negotiate your new car do you pay list price or does the dealer offer you incentives? I know people on this thread have tried to explain that the dealer gets his money no matter what but I don't think they've explained how. Sorry if the following sounds patronising but I'd feel better if I explained it.

List price is not standard and it is expected that you'll haggle. But with your method I suspect you hand back your car, pay full price for a new one and continue paying for a finance package that includes interest. Effectively you are paying over the odds twice, once because you are paying full price and twice because you are paying interest on the loan. Your local dealership loves you because they get all this extra cash. However please tell me if I'm wrong

I believe your intended question was for recommendations on a car that had day to day economical running costs. It may be an idea to provide a few more details such as annual mileage and general road usage e.g. motorways, town etc before anyone can suggest a suitable car.
