We have a package. £25 a month. Broadband, Landline and all calls to landline numbers free.

    Mobile is PAYG.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Basically use the mobile for texts and the odd call. Our broadband/phone package with Tiscali (now Talktalk) is so good.

When we had a problem with the exchange and phone a few weeks ago, I was horrified at the cost of 0871 calls to Talktalk on the mobile. Got £20 credit though.

The only reason I have a landline is so I can use broadband. I hate paying line rental as I never call anyone using my landline and only my parents ever call me on it (so caller ID is fairly pointless!)

What happened to the so-called "naked broadband" I heard about a few years back where you would not pay line rental and your phone line would only be for broadband? I'd sign up yesterday...

I pay Sky for TV/Calls/BB, so it breaks down to £16 a month to sky for my landline including line rental. I use the landline for all UK calls at all times and calls to my Dad in Spain as all these are included in my call allowance. Saves me a fortune.

Mobile is a PAYG and use it when out and about. Occassionally called Spain on it when it was an emergency.

I'm 21 and mostly use my land line - I find the voice quality is consistently better and I have an any time calls package, meaning I can call family members daily without fear of exceeding limits or paying extra.
I only use my mobile for texting, calling mobiles and when I'm out - so I don't normally end up using all of my inclusive minutes and texts.
  • The poll is worded very badly. Just because i don't use my landline for calls doesn't mean that i use my mobile. I actually have a VOIP line (very different to a landline) that i use instead.

I have a landline for broadband and to call 0845 and 0800 numbers (using 0800 buster if I HAVE to call from my mobile) and free evening (after 7pm) and weekend landline calls from BT. I Skype all international calls.

I always use my mobile to call other mobiles and any other daytime calls I need to make (even though I often have to sit in the bathroom to get a decent T-Mobile signal at home, lol) and never reach my limits for free minutes or texts.
mmmm, still seeking something witty to be my auto-signature . . . so this will have to suffice for now ;)
  • The kids have been using the landline and run up £90+ phone bills for the last 3 months running. So now I've unplugged the damn thing and I'm never going to plug it back in.

Yes we've punished them, and yes they'll pay it back somehow but in the end I've realised that prevention is better than cure.

I only had it connected so I can get broadband anyway.

It's annoying that I get charged to dial 0800 numbers on my mobile - but significantly cheaper than the alternative.

I've had to give up my landline as I can't afford to keep it on.

I don't usually make calls from my PAYG mobile either as that's also too expensive, but I use texts a lot. (No, I'm not one of the 'younger' set!)

I bought myself and OH a Skypephone each so we can chat as long as we want. I occasionally use a broadband dongle (also PAYG), and have bought my Dad a Skypephone so he can keep in touch.

Only problem will be if Skype start charging for 3G calls on this handset as they plan to on the iPhone ...
Smile. You'll feel better, and other people will wonder why . . .

    Few years ago....

As we all ready had the BB when OH went to work in France and I was here on my own I wanted the security of a land line.

Got a great deal - phone line with free UK land line calls 24/7 at no extra cost on top of the BB!

Both have PAYG mobiles that are very rarely topped up, in fact I last topped mine up with £10 6 months ago and yesterday used up the last of my credit.

Used to both have PAYG mobiles that also had free texts for life, but they got stolen, lost etc years ago sadly.

Use mobiles mainly when out, to call other mobiles and for orange Wednesdays!

Use land line as most people we know do have one too, ones who don't tend to be the ones we "talk" to online anyway.

I always wonder about people who for whatever reason don't have easy and reliable access to a phone (land line or even mobile) Don't you ever worry about what you would do if you ever needed to phone an ambulance or other 999 service?

We used to live in a house where you could only get a signal in the garden and we had no land line - only reason I wasn't so worried back then was that there were 4 or 5 of us in the house, so normally someone around (in case of emergency) and just put up with all the missed calls and hassle as we were skint and not planning on staying there long term.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
