You are pathetic. Do you need to ask the internet to give you permission every time you make any decision, even though you've already secretly made up your mind?

so im the only one to ask opinions on the net am i think not forum is full of them!

    your odd.

Your friends are in a different social class than you I'm afraid; that is, not scum - oh boohoo you cant wear your Tesco two-stripe shorts and Hawaiian shirt whilst drinking your carefully purchased warm Carlsberg.

    Their house, their rules. Simples.

its quite clear you cant distinguish between either wearing a suit and tie and being stuffy and snobbish on a summer evening or going to the other extreme and saying someone would wear shorts and a hawaiian shirt there is no middle ground with you.

its a waste of time talking to someone who dosent realise there is something in the middle.

you can be smart without wearing a suit and tie. i doubt you can see that though.

I do know how to dress thanks. Surely people should be glad you have come without resorting to stipulation. Its snobby and reserved.:p

Its a birthday party in a garden of a house for christs its not a wedding or a dinner dance you dont have a clue.

Whose to say i would sully the evening with my prescence they might sully mine with the restrictions.

These are the same people who had a christening for their first child and didnt invite any children adults only another garden party.

Me me me me me me me me :rotfl:

Their birthday party, they want you to dress up for their special day.

    Their event, not yours.

And christenings are all about the adults BTW, the baby doesn't get a say in the matter, just has to get wet and wear an impractical frilly dress regardless of sex.

I suspect the party-givers might be a tad socially inept or insecure. I'd never be so presumptuous as to prescribe what my guests may or may not wear but they might be the sort of folk who fear that some of their guests might think that it's OK turn up in shorts, singlet and flip-flops. I daresay none of us posting on or reading this thread need to be told how to dress to a summer garden party but as we know there are people in this world who really do.

You're making up the suit - it wasn't mentioned in your first post!

Red Devil, would really strongly advise you not to go. It will probably be the most boring 'party' ever. Why don't you have your own party and make it clear that people can wear whatever they feel comfortable in. With a bit of luck you will probably keep out all the uptight snobs who think they are above you.

jeez - if the queen was inviting you to HER famous garden party would you turn up in Tshirt and leggings?
Its THEIR garden party and they can set the rules - just decline gracefully if you dont agree with that.
The invitation wasnt from Hyacinth Bucket was it??? and if it was in an ordinary suburban garden I would go all out - hat, gloves, formal dress etc just for the fun factor of watching a social climber (and i do love to dress up and go OTT).
