update for today
had to get 500 litres for myself (900 is just scary prices!!)
Nicholl's £195
Cawoods £204
East Belfast Fuels £198
Fuel Services £202.13
Cheaperoil.com £194.25
Maxol Direct £204
Maxol was the last I phoned and they have been my most frequent supplier lately so I got fed up phoning and just decided to push them to drop the price. They said they would match Nicholl at £195... so I asked if they had any sweeteners like cinema tickets etc... they said they'd none left but as a concession the lady dropped a whole two pounds to £193...
It's embarrasing how triumphant I feel about shaving off that extra two quid!
Thoroughly gutted though because I paid £175 for the same amount exactly one month ago for my boyfriend. that's a 10% increase in a month...
seriously though, these oil price increases are crippling - whilst i am a young professional on a reasonable salary, I am starting to feel the pinch at around £65 a month on heating. i do feel sorry for some of the other people on my street, many of whom are on a low income or unemployed and therefore spend even more time in the house than i do and so would use more oil and have less money to throw around on it.
Thank goodness summer's coming, that's all I can say!0 -
Bangor Fuels charged us £189 for 500 litres today. It was also delivered within an hour - how is that for service!0

Friend got 900 litres towards the end of last week from Bangor Fuels for £333 (I think)
I found my first oil bill the other day .. 900 litres was £65

Normally I fill up in November and again in Feb so get about 4 months out of the winter fill and 8 months from the summer - we would be quite frugle with oil though (neither of us feel the cold)

i was wondering this myself - we got 500 lires at end January and 8 weeks later we had run out - this has NEVER happened - normally we get 2 sets of 500 litres per year - we have a small house with really good insulation and the thermostat is usually set about 60 degrees. I couldn't believe it when the heating didn't come on one evening - i actually thought that the boiler or pump or whatever had packed up, but checked the oil and lo and behold it was dry! then i started to think that the company had diddled us and gave us less than we ordered!!DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Where is the thermostat that you have set at 60 degrees? We have a thermostat with the boiler and one at the bottom of the hotpress but I do not know which one should be turned down. Can anyone please tell me what temperature each of them should be set at?

i would set the thermostat on my boiler at about 60 in summer (as it's mainly just for hot water) and a bit more during cold snaps as the rads won't heat the house enough otherwise. the one on the boiler's the one to adjust first (probably best to set them both the same, i'd imagine).0

THANKS for responding! Where has the thanks button gone?
Why do they have to both be set the same? What would happen if one was set at 79 degrees and the other at 80 degrees? I obviously do not know anything regarding this matter but would like to learn in case I might same some £. I hear people saying that by turning your thermostat down one degree, you could save £, but I wonder how much would you save, 1% of your heating costs?

they say for every 1 degree you turn it down you save about 5% of your heating bill - I definitely noticed the difference last year I turned it higher (to about 75 degrees) and the oil was gone in no time. Also my in laws had their thermostat set at about 90 degrees and went through oil so quickly it was ridiculous - i suggested that they turn it down a bit which they did and they said the oil definitely lasted much longer.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY
