No Buying Toiletries in June Challenge!

No new purchases, but DH had a business trip and as is trained to do brought home hotel shampoos (timestwo..but we both mainly use conditioner!) body lotion and something else, conditioner I think. Lovely verbena scent. I've packed them, so no hope of using up this month.
The refilled with shampoo hand soap dispenser is going crazy, shooting diluted shampoo at peoples tummies, rather than drop i down into their hands. I might be forced to put it away till I move, then keep it in the kitchen for my sole use.0 -
Thank you everyone for being so welcoming to the gang. Feel much better today now I have actually committed to using up this stuff before I buy any more! Have already UU 2 things today:
L'Occitane almond oil shower oil - WIBA? well not at the moment as I have another 2 still in the cupboard from when QVC ran an Auto-delivery programme!
Virgin Vie One Step Face Base - WIBA? well, yes, when I run out of foundations (!) I probably would as this is really quick to apply and gives good coverage - I have rosy cheeks so need something to disguise the redness and this does it for me. I really like Bare Escentuals but find VVOSFB quicker when in a rush
Full confession now, started June with 1156 items! So would like to hit the 1000 mark by Christmas. Went to Boots to get more deodorant (have this under control as have 1 in use and 1 spare now) this morning and resisted the No 7 offer 3 for 2, plus the buy a No 7 mascara and get a make up brush set free - anyone else out there a sucker for the promos with the free make up bag?
Also, DH complains bitterly about all my stuff but then objected when I gave him a Molton Brown shower gel from my stash as he said it was too thin. Seems he prefers the £1 cheapie stuff I usually get for him...
Love reading all your posts and can't wait for some free drawer and cupboard space.0 -
raven, I do like the Olay wash. When I first started this challenge in January, I used it weekly. I alternated it wih a cream coloured one. I found that after a few days, I had a big graze on my cheek and thought that it was probably too exfoliating. However, I use it daily now since my other one has run out and I'm not having any issues with it. I do moisturise daily now too so don't know if that has made any difference.
I've noticed that my skin is looking better since I've been using it. I still get regular breakouts on my chin and I have a collection of milia (is that the white non spots hat sit just under the skin?) across my cheeks. Now if I ever manage to get rid of them, I'll be laughing.
Kiplingmonkey, I too am a fan of VVOSFB. I bought my last lot off ebay. I managed to get 5 for £36inc delivery (and yes, I still haven't finished the first one *insert roll eyes smily* it lasts ages). Where do you get replacement sponges from though that go in the compact? I could do with a replacement.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
Thanks it sounds good. my skin sounds similar. i have a £5 voucher that i can spent in boots. think i will get another then now as they are still giving out the £5 off skincare items and with that get another as its £7.99 in my boots so will only mean spending £6 instead of £16.0

Phew, how about the national debt issue? I still think that Darling should have got himself over to the DFW board for some advice. I'm getting more and more cncerned though. I mean what on earth are they going to do? I'm 32 so I have grown up in a time of unrivalled spending. Everything was bought on credit. I am old enough to remember my Mum jumping out of the car and hurtling into a bank when I was small (prob about 1985) because she saw a mortgage deal advertised. I think that this was during the peak of the recession. We lived in Hemel Hempstead though so we had access to a huge market every weekend. Where I live now there are no markets. There are boot sales with meat vans, and a couple of cheese makers who also sell pies, sausage rolls and scotch eggs. That's about 15 miles away though. I kind of hope that as a nation we all start to live with a little more thought for the world around us. It would be cheaper.
Excellent post. Its this sort of issue that keeps the often silly debate board my MSE home. We discuss things like this a lot. IMO the consumer revenge on MSE is fantastic, but the ultimate revenge would be to have all of us understanding all of this sort of thing so our urchasing choices can be longterm better, not just better for the short term.
I'm hoping to find all my nearest good value producers in the new home quickly.0 -
The Tresemme shampoo and random conditioner dregs didn't last more than 1 wash so they've been relegated to the bin today too!
Hurrah!0 -
Hooray! Those were the 900ml bottles, right? I've got a few of those - I tend to decant into a smaller bottle so it's not so intimidatingMy debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Lilian, that's what I did with my conditioner. I was fed up of it forever falling into the bath when I was trying to use it. It was much more manageable that way. DH did use it to wash with one day though cause it was in a hand soap dispenser. Why on earth he decided to wash his entire body with hand soap when it was next to his shower gel though, I'll never know!
LiR, thanks for not booting me off board for going off topic! I worry about these things. Working nights, I get a lot of time to sit and worry about what is happening to the world. I do think that my parents are getting an almighty wake up call. They lived through the boom times and are going to seriously struggle thrugh the bust. Espescially my mother who has never made any forward financial planning and is unemployed and unemployable (IMHO). Probably her best financial decision was lending me a large sum of money a few years ago which now sees her get a monthly income. She never even managed to keep a property so can't even sell to some poor struggling FTB at a crippling profit. (Not the best relationship if you'd not guessed!).
Sorry for rambling guys.
Oh, a little funny for you too. Have spent most of the day looking for the pool of cat piddle as the house stinks. MiL walks in, sniffs and says "Has he left those flowers in the kitchen?"
Yup DH has picked elderflowers for me to make the champagne but I don't have enough sugar to do it and they need to be put in fresh. I was advised to pick them in the morning when they smell like bananas not in the evening when they smell like cat piddle!
Anyhoo, Working tonight but I shall go and fill my mahoosive bucket with sterilising fluid and bottles so that I can get started on it tomorrow hopefully!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0
