can Apple prove the OP got 2 ipods?

    Yes
UPS Delivery and the fact he collected the 2nd - along with another parcel whether he signed or not, not to mention if he registers it online etc.

The OP would be foolish as if it flags up on their system which it will at some point they will want the cash or the second back and the OP will have to comply.

As said no doubt being a BH there was a skeleton staff yesterday and the Call centre didnt fancy doing the work themselves.

OP should ask for written permission. I bet it isnt forthcoming.

an ipod being delivered by UPS is one accounted for
'along with another ipod' so theres proof the OP got one ipod then?
  • Thanks for your replies - most of which are helpful!!

To clarify, the first iPod (sent by Royal Mail) is the one I collected/received first, but did not have to provide a signature for (so yes, I only signed for one). The second iPod was sent with UPS, and Apple actually advised me to go and collect this/keep it when I called, I was not secretly plotting a 2for1 deal of my own Mr somethingcorporate! It seemed too good to be true, hence my post requesting some advice.

This did not occur during either Bank Holiday weekend Weirdlittleman, so unless the staff are permanently lazy, that is irrelevant.

Secondly, I did ask Apple for written confirmation that I could keep the second iPod. The guy I was talking to said he would not be able to do that (presumably because whilst the cost price is probably only about £20 to Apple, the staff would get into some trouble if they were openly seen to be giving merchandise away). He did say that he would put a note on my account confirming the situation, but I admit that I have not called back again yet to check that this was done...
  • Interestingly enough, the postman dumped DD's birthday present iPod Touch on the doorstep last week without getting it signed for at all. I found it 6 hours later, just as I was opening the door for DD to come in from school [cue much fumbling around to hide it behind my back before she spotted it!].

Since when is it OK to dump £150 on the ground and walk away?

I didn't suggest that you were plotting anything. The advice has been the same throughout, if you keep it be prepared to have to pay for it at some point in the future. Simples.

Just like TV, if you don't like what you see, then go do something else ;)

    :rotfl:

Some people need genuine help and advice, which is great, others just want to know they can get away with stealing / scamming / keeping things they are not entitled to - that just rubs me up the wrong way because of the greed and lack of morals by a number of uneducated peons.

I am not suggesting this is the case of the OP at all, they have done the right thing but the fact Apple won't confirm he can keep the second iPod in writing then they should be prepared to and expect to pay for the second (since they have the benefit of the second iPod).

Everyone thinks the world owes them a living.

So what should the OP do in your world, send it back at his own expense without any paperwork. How would that work then............

So the OP Should just keep it and use it without any paperwork?

and what should he do when Apple ask for it back?

This is a consumer rights forum, at the end of the day the OP only has the right to keep the goods he hasn't paid for with proof from Apple to that extent. Until he gets it an unrecorded phonecall is hardly likely going to stand up as proof if Apple were to ask for it back.

I have said all along that the OP should get confirmation.

    p.s. fancy posting something constructive?

Do something constructive yourself and answer my question,

You probably will find that like lot's of other companies Apple have no way of putting goods back into stock once they have been allocated to a customer.

I wonder if you can still buy Jobsworth hats, I'd get you one.

I have said every post I have made what the OP should do. Get it in writing from Apple that they can keep it or prepare to hand it back if they ask for it.

What have you suggested they do?

At least I have attempted to be constructive. Can you point me to a post where you have offered any advice?

Edit: I've just read back through your posts, you're clearly just a WUM.
