Oooooh, we had to spend a bit today - needed some bread for toast for little boy who has bad tum-tums...But as Scarlet O'Hara always says looking into the future; 'Tomorrow is another day.'

Tonight has been an evening of long and hard ponderings........ how to set my GC budget for July, and what to set my NSD challenge target as.

With regards to the NSD challenge, I've been considering changing to counting Total NSDs - whereas I currently ignore D/Debs, window cleaner, dog expenses, petrol, one off annual payments (such as house/car insurance, car breakdown/service/MOT), present purchases, and anything that's work related (so far this year just one pair of safety shoes).

So I've been back looking at my counts for 2010

Jan - NSD target 11. NSDs declared 14. Total NSDs 10. Excluded expenses on 10 days.
Feb - NSD target 11. NSDs declared 17. Total NSDs 15. Excluded expenses on 5 days.
Mar - NSD target 11. NSDs declared 16. Total NSDs 12. Excluded expenses on 9 days.
Apr - NSD target 11. NSDs declared 12. Total NSDs 10. Excluded expenses on 7 days.
May - NSD target 11 (raised to 20). NSDs declared 21. Total NSDs 18. Excluded expenses on 6 days.
Jun - NSD target 12 (raised to 17). Hoping to declare 18 NSDs. Should be 15 Total NSDs. Excluded expenses on 6 days.

I know that I have payments going out of my bank on at least 4 days in July (some vary by as much as a couple of days, so 3 that hit together yesterday sometimes fall on 3 different days!), and the chances the window cleaner will call on one of those 4 is pretty remote - so at least 5 days currently excluded. The car is also due its service and MOT, but I could book that for the last 'for sure' Direct Debit day (28th) as I think my MOT is valid until then (must find certificate and check, otherwise would have to be 15th).

I also need to get a laptop for DS (ready for Uni), and while not all the cost of that will be from my presents budget he has said he doesn't expect a birthday present (next month) or Christmas present as I'm paying for this..... so I will be recording something against my 'presents' budget (even though he will still get something small/inexpensive to unwrap on the special days). But he's "chomping at the bit" to get his sticky mitts on this, so I'm currently planning on going out for it on Thursday (which is a D/Debit day anyway)

So my calculations started as follows.....

    July = 31 days.
Deduct 5 days for currently excluded payments, and that leaves 26 days that could be Total NSDs...... as long as I only bought groceries on those 5 days.
But given I'm having to buy milk roughly every 4 days, we all know that's not going to happen rolleyes.gif

So I then reworked on the basis I have to buy milk twice a week - giving me 9 grocery spend days in the month. My 4 D/Deb days actually fall such that I could (in theory) make all of those 'milk purchase days', so I now need to allow for 4 D/Debit & Milk days, 1 window cleaner day, and 5 additional 'milk' days. That's now 10 days that won't be Total NSDs, leaving an opportunity for 21

But so far this year (including tomorrow as a Total NSD) I'll have managed 'just' 80 Total NSDs in 181 days - so roughly 44%. To maintain that percentage I need to be looking at 13.7 Total NSDs in July.

So yet more pondering - could I possibly make 14 Total NSDs in July, given I've only managed (at least) that figure for 3 months of the last 6 unknown.gif

Then throw into the equation I have a week off work (next week) when I'll either be much less tempted to spend or much more........

So I've finally come to the conclusion that 10 Total NSDs should be easy enough, but not much of a challenge as I've managed at least that every month this year.

    Which leads me to......

SPOON : Can you please set my July target to 12 Total NSDs, and I'll see how I get on.
I very much doubt I'll be raising my target during the month, but I'll do the best I can :D

I also had to get some motion lotion yesterday, £58!!! No wonder I got some funny looks, the abject look of horror that must have been on my face......

No galloping pony for me I'm afraid, but maybe a rocking horse?

Here you are, Nargle, especially for you:D:D

I made it to my revised target of 24 NSDs yesterday so I finally get my dancing banana ..:j. I've just spotted the spinning smiling for smashing your target so if I stay in all day today and don't spend any money taking me to a grand total of 25 can I get one of those as well please pretty please scrooge? What an incentive to stay in today.

I am just off to check what the month of July holds for me before I commit a figure for my July NSDs.

Scrooge, many thanks for all your encouragement and updates throughout the month. I really couldnt' achieve this amount of no spend days without everybody on the thread keeping me motivated and out of trouble.

Thanks every you are all :A.

Today is a spend day as we are going for lunch with a girl who's leaving. She works on our team but I dont know her that well. I dont really feel like going but everyone makes you feel like a complete party pooper if you dont go. Do I sound like a real meanie? It's just that when I spend money on social stuff, I want it to be on things I really want to do! Sorry to moan!

Spoon - great job as usual, thanks! Can you put me down for 15 again for July pls?

    Have a lovely day everyone!
