phone will be free, 25% off tariff

I think your manager friend is mistaken about Tesco discount for staff and for friends.

iPhones handset prices on contracts are the same price as for customers but come with a 10% discount on line rental. So even on the 24 month £45 contract, an iPhone 4 would not be free (line rental £40.50 with discount).

Sim-only contracts do have 25% off line rental (for staff, family and friends) but do not come with a phone.

There is a 10% staff-only discount on handsets bought on PAYG.

Starting to think it may be worth just sitting it out for a week or two until the mad rush has ended. Disappointed that Tesco only ordering over the phone though. Hopefully this will change in time.

I think that's what I'll do now. I was going to get it from Tesco store tomorrow but not looking likely is it? I'll try and save up a bit towards the £229 and wait wil end of July, hopefully the white will be out then too :D

Just got through. The person said their booking software has a problem and that they will not be able to take orders until some time tomorrow.

    What an anticlimax

Shame Tesco didn't test their systems robustly before today. You think they might consider putting some up for direct sales (PAYG) given the circumstances. Still, fingers crossed they'll be up and running by tomorrow. I'd try again later today if I were you as it shouldn't take all day to get their systems back on.

If I bought the phone on Tesco PAYG (when released), can I put my O2 sim in it?

Also do Tesco charge to unlock a PAYG phone? It might just be worthwhil buying from Apple or waiting for O2 to release their PAYG prices.

O2 sims will work in Tesco phones. 12 months before it can be unlocked but not sure if they charge. I suspect O2's PAYG prices will be the same as Orange.

They are selling them on three!

    32GB - £189
    16GB - £99

    on a £30 a month 24 month contract.
    500 mins
    5000 mins 3-to-3
    5000 texts
    1GB data

Advertisement of the deals is awful, I was the first 3 customer.

Just got through to tesco. He said there will be no sales whatsoever today but to try phoning again at 9am tomorrow, and that they have plenty stock to last the weekend.

Yep, really! I was happy. It was borderline on whether I could really afford it but at that price I can.

Now I just need to get my pac code off O2.
