Right guys after lots of consideration this is my plan. I have never changed networks before and so am unsure of the process. Is this right:

    1) will get my PAC code from orange today and tell them I am leaving
    2) Will order my 30 day £15 simplicity SIM today with the extra £5 for unlimited data and give them my PAC code so I can continue with the same number
    3) once received o2 sim, use it in OH's old O2 phone for the time being
    4) Order the unlocked sim free iphone4 from Apple, maybe next week, I'm in no rush. Paid for on a 12 month 0% credit card
    5) Once got iphone, ring O2 and ask for a micro sim.

Does this look ok? I'm not sure if I'm doing it in the wrong order or if I am missing something vital.

    Thoughts appreciated.
  • The only thing you got wrong is the 30 day Simplicity sim. You want to go for the 12 month iPhone £15 simplicity sim, so that:

    a. it costs you £5 less per month for the sim and avoids the need for the £5 for the extra data
    b. it gives you unlimited data use until your next renewal in 12 months time.

Total saving over 12 months will be £120 by doing it that way.

Call me skeptical but I don't think the networks are going to dish out micro sims as easily as everyone makes out unless they are selling you an iPhone and/or plan with it.

I think it would be worth a call to O2 first.. any feedback appreciated as I would like to do the same albeit with Orange.. otherwise my plan was to slice up my existing sim to the correct size.

You can ask for a micro sim from O2 over the phone or in an O2 store from next week. They also said they may send them out online if you register a strong interest for the iPhone (i.e. register for iPhone updates).

How do they manage the switch over? As soon as you start using your micro sim does your original sim effectively die?
You cant have two sims for the same number..

If you want a new (non apple) phone in the future, are the networks going to send you out a new sim?
Sounds like an expense they could avoid.. that's the reason for my skepticism, but i hope I'm wrong.

    EDIT:
Actually I've just read that you can use an adapter to use the microsim in a normal sim phone. Oh well.. happy days!
  • Yo,

keeping tabs on the situation and this MY take on it.

I think all networks r scared to release their tariffs as they dont want to let other networks to get a advantage over them. Also this 'leaked' tariffs are just to get peoples reactions on their prices.
But they way things are going the first to release their tariffs and start accpeting pre-orders MIGHT get the customers as iphone fans will want to guarantee getting an iphone on the 24th june.

    What u rec?

I think Apple are again dominating their product and dictating on who can release the pricing info, I have reserved one in the Apple store for pick up on 24th (afternoon)
Hopefully o2 will of released their prices by then but it all depends on if I want the phone that day or whether I will have to wait through o2...

I've reserved one to collect on 24th and put to pay monthly as I am wanting a contract, I'm wanting to go on Orange as my husbands on Orange then I can get magic numbers. Can anyone advise will the cost doing it through Apple be the same as doing it through Orange?

Although I'm currently with 3 but out of contract and if they are cheaper may stay with them.

    Thanks

Unless you are desperate to get the iPhone on launch day, I would suggest you hold out for network pricing and order online where you can get cashback (up to £70 at the moment - although this may change by launch day). You may still be able to get the phone on launch day anyway.

You may also be able to speak to 3 and see if they will give you any retention deals (once they announce pricing).
