i love posts like this! you can just jump up straight away and start something positive. no need to research, buy anything, apply for anything etc.
everyone must have a recepticle of some sort and a penny to start it off!
thanks for reminding us that sometimes simple is best.

OOOH Thank you! You've reminded me to start another pot up!! My OH got one of those tins that you open with a tin opener for Christmas 08. He put in any change 50p and lower and when we come to go away this April I suggested he bring that with him for the arcade. He had £26 in there! Not a huge amount but it meant he didn't actually spend any money from his account of frivilous things so it was guilt free. We're going again next year so need to get another pot going.:A

My son puts all his change into a tin can with a slot in it (you can buy them in markets etc.)
He had an unexpected bill for his car of nearly £800 and emptied his tin and counted it - there was £500 in it. He was really pleased.
I just save 5p, 10 & 20p and every now and again count them up and pay them into the bank. I used to pay my credit card off with them but the credit card is finished now (and the account closed). It definitely pays to save the small change!0 -
someone bought my son a jar that counts money as you add it
we put our change in that,
we also got a gumball vending machine, and put mints in it
it costs 20p to get about 6 out
i still havent told anyone in the house it has a manual over ride:rotfl:
i have no idea how much is in it
but ieverytime one of them uses it!

My Dd and I have a box for 20p coins towards the rabbit and guinea pig food fund - cos I keep getting stung with the bill :T We have a shed full of rescued animals and buy in bulk. Dh also has a pot which we pop cash in for treats for ourselves and he hides it from me so i forget it, then when we are fed up he produces the tin with a flourish as if he is clever :rotfl:Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
What a brilliant idea, feel very inspired to try my own change jar and have found a HUGE old colemans mustard tin and am going to put in all small change between now and Christmas. I will be very excited to see how much my OH and myself manage to collect painlessly in this way.0

Usually if a shopping costs, say, £8.13, I'd pay something like £10.13, to spend the coins. :think:0

I've got those little plastic bags from the bank. As soon as I fill it with loose change, I take it to the bank.
It might help if you have a shock box. If someone leaves a light on in an unoccupied room, they have to put 20p in the shock box.0
