the pennies soon add up :)

Since about Feb I've been popping odd change into a money box & for lack of anything more interesting to do, I just counted it! Just over £25 in the "small change" moneybox (anything from 1p to 50p) & £74 in my "pound pot" (£1 coins, £2 coins & 2x£5notes in there too!!!)

It just goes to shows that tiny amounts soon mount up :)

It certainly does! I've got an old piggy bank that I've had since I was a child. I pop my coppers and 5's and 10's in there, then when it's full, I bag it up and pay it into my bank account.

Because it's small change, you don't miss it.

Other Half and i keep penny jars. He especially likes to collect £2 coins.
Then in December we have plenty for Christmas presents. We've done this for years. It usually amounts to about £150 or more
I will admit to occasionally raiding my jars for a few coins to buy a loaf of bread etc instead of going to the cashpoint where I'd be tempted to take out more money than I need (and then spend it on impulse buys).

I do the same. I have one pot for coppers and 5ps, one old truffle tin that I'm using to pop in 10ps and 20ps (it's my little saving pot for Christmas) and I'm also using my Great Uncles wooden money box for saving £1 coins which are going to be used as spending money for a weekend away in August. I add £1 a day and my boyfriend adds £1 whenever he has one.

We have had a penny jar for years and it has got us out of trouble more times than I can count - Bills, Christmas, Car, etc
We just empty all the change out of our purse/pockets every night, even the kids put their pennies in a savings jar so it is a good lesson for them to learn.
The current total is £436 :j this is since January - so I want to keep up the momentum and see just how much we can actually save in a year.

We draw out enough money every week for shopping and what is left over goes in the jar too :D
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I've been Money Tipped! Chutzpah Haggler
I bought a tin from B&M that was 75p a few months ago and use it to put £1 and £2 coins in, the only way to open it would be with a tin opener which is great for me otherwise I would just dip into it whenever I was short!

I am hoping that we should have plenty in there at xmas time, it's already fairly heavy

We put all our coppers and 5p coins into a money box and when we have £5 worth of 5p coins and one pound's worth of pennies and £1's worth of tuppences then we bag them up and put £3.50 into each of our two children's trust fund accounts. It doesn't sound much but it's a little and often!!

Also, my Mum has always saved her £2 coins and wrapped them up in a little bag for my daughter for Christmas. Now I have a son too she shares it between the two of them.

It is a good idea however I think I need to buy one which I can't get in to as I keep taking money out for kids when I haven't got change and it never goes back.

I have a coin sorter (it was a gift) that I use for everyday shrapnel, a pink piggy that I save every £2 coin in and a Disney ceramic Eeyore that I save every 50p in. Such an easy way to save. I feel like Scrooge McDuck squirreling my change away. :rotfl:

Our shrapnel goes into a box I had when a baby!

Its main purpose is to save small change for the greengrocer who is always grateful for coppers. I have never yet managed to pay the whole greengrocery bill with it as I check monthly but it does help (me and him)
