They don't actually *realise* they have traits that DO make them 'different'.
Thank you, but I dont actually teach (lecture) to children.;)0 -
For some reason, many people don't count things like free eye tests, prescriptions, etc as "benefits" and therefore, don't count them in the true cost.
She only mentioned DLA and thats a tiny part of the cash in hand (IB, IS) she gets along with nearly all of her housing costs paid for, extra cash so her boyfriend gets the carers premium plus the full raft of child finance that she gets because shes sick.
The DLA is worth much more than the £267 too, without that she gets no IS.0 -

I will be returning to work once i'm fit & well which might not be for a couple more years & still have 25 years of working life in me unless they put the retirement age up then i'll have longer.
At the risk of being called a cold hearted b1tch again, I really don't think that you should hang all your future mental health on reconstructive surgery. It's rather like someone with a large nose thinking that their life will be wonderful once they've had it fixed which really isn't the case.
My surgery was very successful but I've since seen photos of other reconstructions and I might not have had it done if I'd seen them first. I was fortunate in that I didn't like wearing a prosthesis and this was why I had it done, the fact that it looks quite realistic was a bonus..
I didn't get depressed following my mastectomy (despite being diagnosed 6 months after I married and being told that I shouldn't get pregnant) because I was so happy to be alive and to be married to a wonderful many who loved me whether I had two breasts, one breast or none!0 -
I know you think I've been having a go but I'm actually quite concerned as I fear the surgery is not going to transform your life in the way you hope.
In fact, to put it bluntly, I think you are in cloud cuckoo land!
You said it more succinctly than I did, but that's exactly what I was getting at.0 -

ok, (without reading back), I'm assuming you teach autistic/aspergers adults then?
Can I ask what your qualifications in this field are? I'm interested, because I don't have experience of adults with autism or aspergers, and am genuinely interested as to why, if they can be officially disabled with these conditions, why they think they are 'normal'?
Many children diagnosed on the autistic spectrum, clearly have additional needs, some quite severe. So is this different in adults? All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Maybe I should ask my gp.
You can, of course ask your GP but I was given a temporary one after I was discharged from hospital and then had the permanent one fitted after the scar had healed, somewhere around the one month check up.0 -

I only mentioned DLA as someone said I was making money out of being disabled.
You don't get IB just because your disabled.
My bf doesn't get carers premiuim either but he has just applied for it & he will only get £30.05 as i'm on IB.
People on low incomes that receive tax credits get free eyetests & prescriptions free too.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

No one ever mentioned it to me perhaps because I was supposed to have a reconstruction.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

I don't think it's so much they see themselves as "normal" - I guess many find it doesn't have an impact on their day-to-day life?
Some adults have additional needs and some don't. A friend is 25 and is autistic - she can't talk and has to be constantly supervised. Another friend works and generally leads a normal life.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
