The quest for home!

Hi Iwantahome
I have just read your diary and I am another one who can relate to wanting to move out of my parents home!!
I'm 32 and got myself into loads of debt, finally paid it off 2 years ago, bought a new car last year with cash!!:j Then got a Credit Card to build up my credit rating, only problem with that was I spent on it and the savings went out the window!!
Now the Credit Card is paid off - as of yesterday
and on 1st January I intend to start my own diary quest for a home.
I also have the iPhone app Accounts and LOVE it as well. I have all my bank, savings and Credit Card accounts on there including 1 for just cash so I know exactly what I am spending
Good luck with the savings and I look forward to reading your progress.

I have been slightly worse for wear since christmas day and the desire to even contemplate opening a bottle of wine or go to the pub has knocked me sick. So i've put £100 (what I think I would have spent on my missed nights out) into my house deposit fund.
I have also started a sealed pot (I need to find the thread and join the challenge) and have added £3 to that.
January is such a boring month socially but such a wonderful month financially without the pressure to go out as everyone recoups their december overspend and gets their liver back in shape, plus no expensive party clothes to buy. My sealed pot will be used for paying towards christmas presents and partying next year. It is one of those 99p tins from £stretcher. Does anyone know how many £coins they hold?
Well done on the not spending - I wished I had managed that but have bought and wrapped 9 pressies for next year!
I have paid off my Credit Card spends on that with my Sealed Pot from this year
Sealed Pot Challenge 4 is here
If you do decide to start a new diary for 2011 please post a link in this diary so we can all find you

Well done on your strong start! Every cloud and all that - who knew being ill could be so rewarding?!
Hope you're feeling better now though.
So, any progress on the resolutions? Mine are either too big to measure, or too many to count! Need a happy balance. I think a new diray for 2011 is a nice idea, although you should be really proud of how far you've come - so maybe you could keep this one somewhere as a reminder if ever you're getting down about things.
Any exciting plans for welcoming in 2011?[STRIKE]Total debt 1.11.10 £23,446[/STRIKE]Save £6k in 2015 #129 £6121.66/£6000Save £6k in 2016 #39 £6000/£60000 -
iwantahome wrote: »Ah but Palema you will be spending less on these presents for christmas next year. So your spending is future savings. Whereas I will more than likely be paying full price for them last minute in December, after i've had my usual "I am buying for nobody this year, i'm (used to be clearing debt but is now...) saving for a home" rant. Then quickly backtracking at the last minute and spending on everyone. Maybe that could be one of my resolutions, think ahead on present buying and plan things better so that they are cheaper and more thoughtful gifts.
Thank you for the link. I am joining now.
Congratulations on clearing your pink (not so friendly) friend, and joining the deposit savings ranks.
I will def start a new diary for 2011 as this one holds too many bad memories and I need to move my life forward in a positive direction and forget about the woes of my life when I was in debt and in a mess. I know Jan 1st is just one day, but this one is signifying a massive new start for me, and by the looks of a few others diaries that I'm subscribed to, for a lot of other people too.
I save my Sealed Pot money/VSP money for the Christmas sales to start shopping - I have done for the last 3/4 years.
I am starting my new diary on 1st January as well - I have written the 1st post and saved it on my computer but not posting, like you it will be a new year, new start!
