Hi, I found my EHIC card had an expired date of Sept 2015 so went on the internet to obtain a new one/renew the card. I went on to the website to renew my card and submitted my application and was charged £35. At this point I just thought that was the cost for this card. However, 30 mins later after obtaining the relevant information to request a card for a family member, I went back on the search site again and noticed a site to get the FREE EHIC card. Looking on to this site I realised the card was actually free and didn't need to pay for it. I straight away e-mailed the original site to cancel my application and asked for £35 to be refunded which they have declined to do as they say they are an advisory service and my application has been submitted. Is there an way I can get my money back from them? Thank you.
No chance, you agreed to all their terms and conditions. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Don't rely on your EHIC card in Bulgaria. My wife broke her arm in a fall,
the polyclinic on resort was brilliant and didn't charge us for treating her. But we had to go to the hospital in another part of bulgaria, luckily I had Bulgarian friends who came to hospital with us. When my wife had her arm sorted we had to wait for an accountant to come. Asked how we were going to pay, I said our E111 card, told us takes too long to get money, I then said insurance policy, again told takes too long to get paid. The doctor asked if I had money and when I said yes, he said to accountant today we make much money from tourist. My Bulgarian friend ripped into him. He was stunned and said to my friend, are you Bulgarian. When they said yes and was ashamed to be because of his statement. We got the correct bill. But had to pay cash, so be careful when abroad and ask for an interpreter if you don't speak the language.0 -

my mother has just done exactly this ... and was charged £34.99 for the privilege! however, I saw the 'acceptance email' and we have instantly replied to say we wish to cancel this renewal. on the emailed reply to say they has received our email, was a form to fill in saying you wised to cancel, and this was accepted and the money will be refunded within 5 working days. avoid EHIC DIRECT0 -

Presently a Ehic card is free. The official web site is free. ALL the other web sites are NOT the British Government web site and WILL charge you a fee. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0

I have been trying to log on to the EHIC website to renew my card for over 48 hours.
Everytime I try, my browser just times out! Infuriating!!!
Is there a problem with the website or am I doing something wrong?
