toilet rolls ? best way of saving

Hi all, i find that Makro (if you have one near you and have a card) is good for bogofs on loo roll, just bought 2x 18packs of andrex for 6.99 plus vat, it seems that they nearly always have a loo roll offer on.
Now to the man from post number 13... eurgh!! I dont understand why men dont wipe or at least dab as there must be dribbles which have to go somewhere?
Post number 19.... another eurgh!!! re-usable sanitary towels??? sound foul to me but i am sure very good for the 'green' people among us and i say well done to those who use them but i am just too lazy.
And lastly post 34 about greece. This was the one thing that put me off about greece, my lovely friend who we went on holiday to greece with a couple of years ago failed to tell our family and her own family about the sanitary problems in Greece (as she had been before) until we were on the plane.....mmmmm!! It is such a shame as apart from that we had a lovely time.
Just one little question aswell (sorry for going on) when you 'squash' your loo rolls do you then put them on a loo roll holder? or do they sit on a shelf or on the floor etc still squashed. It sounds like a fantastic idea and i am probably being thick but if anyone can help me out i would be very grateful!!
Thanks

It isn't Greece that has sanitary problems, but rather tourists who have the problem... I'll explain:
In Greece, Turkey and a whole host of other countries, they use the principle of washing, then using a little loo roll to wipe clean water away. As the plumbing can't handle paper, this clean yet damp loo roll is deposited in a bin. If you're wondering how they wash when on the loo, most loos are also bidets. Noticed a little tap behind the loo, and a little pipe in the bowl? That's the bidet bit. Unfortunately, you hit a tourist spot in either country and the loos stink since the tourists wipe without washing and deposit it in a bin.
As for anyone seriously interested in the option of washing rather than wiping (a very sanitary option), there is such a thing as a "handheld bidet". It's a bit like a shower head but adapted so it can fit into your existing loo plumbing.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Somerfield have an offer on at the moment .. 18 Charmin for £3.99!
I am also a toilet roll obsessive and reading this thread really cheered me up on a depressing Saturday eve all alone .... apart from my loo rolls for company0 -
if we ran out years ago when living with my nan and grandad we would use newspaper but if you were lucky you would pay a visit to the pantry to check the bread bin and find the bread wrapper. Not the plastic sort
but the soft tissue type that you would get from the bakers.
I have just read the whole of this thread with interest as there are myself and hubby and 2 teenage daughters and i always buy decent toilet rolls (andrex, charmin, etc...) and yet we go through almost 2 a day sometimes nearly 3. Average over a week would be about 12-15.
I always work on 25p per roll and from farmfoods they do good ones for this price. If there are offers elsewhere that work out cheaper i then stock up. I can remember the time having about 70 toilet rolls stacked in the bathroom in 4 packs and everyone taking the mick. Our bathroom is only about 6'x4' and has bath, toilet and sink in so not much room to move!!0 -
I was tempted by the Somerfield offer but the Nouvelle 4pk, at BOGOF for £1.66, works out better plus it's recycled so I went all the way to Morrisons (well, it's not far but I went there just for cheap loo roll! Somerfield is nearer) and stocked up. thanks wanting2save.0

OMG!! I live with OH and parents (moving in a few weeks) but we use maybe 2/3 rolls a week AND I probably use more than I need. I never realised kids would waste so much.
I might try the squashing thing when we move into our house though. Every penny will help.

i still need to work out which brand.... or what store brand loo roll would be best value for our family..... so over the next few weeks...i am going to try diff ones.... and what i will be doing is when we start a new loo roll.. i am going to write the date it was started on the inside of the roll..
plus i am down to my last 3 rolls of the huge mountain i had stocked piled..... so will also need to go hunting for the bogof's etc..... as i havent been looking... and now that i am running out i cant find any true bargins in tescos...:eek:Work to live= not live to work0 -
I buy the recycled ones from LIDL, though I rather not think what they're recycled from...
I think they're £1.16 or something for a pack of about 20. They seem to last a long time.Wannabee champagne girl...on a beer income.0 -
You're all probably never going to want to have anything to do with me again but....
...use cloth wipes and wash them!
 I hear you go!
We use cloth nappies on our baby so figured that using cloth wipes for us was no different.
Just in case you think I'm a weirdo there's a very active forum on another site that discusses eco-friendly, money-saving tips such as this (that's where I got the information from).
Without going into details, cloth is MUCH more pleasant to use than toilet paper. Some folk just cut up old T-shirts in about 6inch squares. Others (like me) cut up flannel cot sheets from charity shops and hem them up so they don't unravel. In fact anything that is soft and absorbent is good (old flannel nighties, old towels, etc...). Very money-saving! My stash probably cost about £3. :money:
It took some guts to take the plunge but now we hate using toilet paper...just feels yucky.
You gotta try it to believe it!"Finish each day And be done with it.

Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."
