  • If you do run out of toilet paper I found the next best thing is an empty walkers crisp packet -

In deepest darkest africa i am sure they don't have loo rolls and i am also sure they don't all go around with filthy backsides. I can't comment on what they do do specifically but it's an idea....

Some cultures use water primarily to wash away urine rather than just wipe it.

OK a really gross thought but here goes - for No.1's use water & a cloth, wash the cloth. Save loo roll for No.2's.

Probably easier just to stick to spending a fortune on loo rolls....

Hope you dont mind me lowering the tone of this thread but ....

For anyone going on holiday to Greece/islands, this has just prompted my lasting memory of a holiday there about twenty years ago...
In most toilets we used there was a notice that said (something like)

"Do not put paper in the toilets as it blocks it. Instead, please put all paper in the basket nearby"..... The stench was unbelievable (i dont think i dared to look!)

btw I have never been back since!:rotfl:

  • Best I've found is Lidl, 100% recycled, no chlorine/bleach etc, £1.19 for 10. Not too rough, lasts a surprisingly long time and being as 5 year old goes through it like she has shares in it, I don't wince when she's gone for her 100th wee of the day....

Greek toilets - been there... only survived (narrowly) by judicious use of scented nappy bags... Not exactly OS but kept my sanity...

another option is to use moist toilet tissue to clean up number 2s, either through buying cheap babywipes (a kind that wont block your drains), or buying a more expensive toilet tissue which will withstand being moistened

and scuzz..........did you really use an empty walkers crisp packet

dont think i could look at them in the same way now:eek:

and another question.....or another thought.. how did we come to use the terms no 1's and no 2's..... for our bodily functions....

I buy Tesco's cheapest value loo roll. I once lived in a house where the plumbing was old and bit dodgy, and a plumber advised me to use the cheapest loo roll possible as it was so thin it tended not to block the drains. That way I would avoid potential large plumbing bills. Having always lived in old houses, I've stuck to that advice ever since.

Yes, and hide the fresh loo rolls away - make em all think it's the last one. I reckon some people snack on loo paper...judging by the speed with which it gets used!

when i was a kid I used to go around my friends house to play and her loo rolls were like tracing paper in a box and you could only take one sheet at a time and they were uncomfortable to use so you wouldnt want more.

I have in the past bought kitchen paper and sawed it in half to make toilet paper. Whether this is more economical or not remains to be seen. The most economical toilet paper is the stuff one pinches from the office.
