How does the Nexus 1 have the latest hardware? Under the skin it's basically the same as the Desire. The same apps run on the Desire as the Nexus One as well.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

What the Google Nexus One has which the HTC Desire does not have

    • Dual Noise cancellation microphones
    • triband HSDPA/WCDMA
    • Voice Dictation
    • Google's sole attention
Which for me is key! - I want 2.2 when Google release it in the UK - I don't want to have to wait for HTC to push the update, and whith HTC's past, they take months (G1) owner.

HTC Desire has the sense UI which for me is child like, but for the Average user who does not know what rooting is etc... the Sence UI is fantastic pulling all Androids features in a nice clean way to use.

I like pure uncut Android, having the latest features and big community support and the best of all GOOGLES SUPPORT :)

It doesn't. The Desire is a newer variant of the HTC platform that the Nexus shares. It lacks the noise cancelling mike but gains a little memory, physical rather than touch switches and the optical tracker instead of the trackball. The only other significant difference is the Sense UI, but it's not really a difference if you don't like it, as it's relatively simple to run pure Android on the Desire if that's your thing. Then of course, it has the same support from Google as the nexus.

I considered both (well, three counting the iPhone 3GS), but went for the Desire and have no regrets.

HTC are in charge of that.

With there past, they have to put sence UI so pushes updates back by 1month or so

If by voice dictation you mean voice to text, that's easily added to the Desire.

Sense is a great UI, personally I prefer it to vanilla Android and most reviewers seem to agree.

Triband 3G is a good feature but I doubt if it's that big a deal to most people.

On forums people make a lot of the updates to Android but I suspect for a lot of people it simply won't matter. Its not as though the phone will stop working and HTC have confirmed theyr'e going to release the update for the desire and the Legend this year.

I think you misunderstood my point. You need to read the sentence before the one you highlighted, along with the one you highlighted. If you run vanilla Android on the Desire, it gets the update at the same time.

    Nope.

I think i was correct, the Desire does not get the same support as the Nexus.

OK here is an example, in android 2.1 you get Live wallpapers with the desire you can't both are running Andorid 2.1

The Desire doesn't have the colour changing trackball though like the Nexus One. Which I love and people that see it love it too! :T:T

The desire has live wallpapers too. Most tech websites place the desire ahead of the nexus one. Google is itself putting on hold soon the nexus one for sale on its websites. Some usa networks have already cancelled plans to sell nexus one and have gone for the HTC incredible or evo . See goggles own website where for some networks in usa they are already recommending HTC devices as recommended devices.

As for Google supporting the nexus, they didn't even have a phone support even after they launched !!!! And people were stuck posting probe by email or in forums.

Google itself is using the desire or other HTC devices to show what Android can do rather than use the nexus 1.

Noise cancellation lack doesn't seem to hamper HTC desire use. The trackball is more likely to get faults than an optical device on the desire.

See geekanoid videos or YouTube videos on how to remove sense and use like nexus 1 ifneeded.

Yes updates is an issue but HTC seems to have leaked info that they are releasing desire update on 23 June. But don't bet your house on that seeing the hero update situation!

Voice input can be done by apps or keyboard versions available now even for the desire. Many on here seem to be already using the feature.

Triband 3g won't be an issue for most people. But still a useful feature.

The nexus1 is still a good phone as HTC built it and the desire was released later. Obviously that's why most websites Rate the desire higher. Another reason why some usa networks have cancelled plans for the nexus 1 now.

You need to check out the Desire spec more thorughly. Live Wallpapers are available out of the box.

What Fifer is saying about support is that if you install vanilla Android on the Desire you will get updates at the same time as the Nexus.

One other thing the Desire has that the Nexus doesn't is an FM Radio. Well, actually it does but Google haven't seen fit to enable it on the N1.
