Confused by sky deal and reps conflicting advice..help!

I would appreciate some MSE opinion on this please...
Did a recommendation for my mum to join sky when she moves (no cable at new address, so cant take virgin), I thought I understood the package and prices, but just come off the phone with the rep and Im totally confused (he suggested a bigger, different package saying it would be cheaper overall.)
Is there anyone who knows about sky packages that can help?
My mum wants:
sky+ with variety, childrens and knowledge (£18+£1+£1=£20). +£30 dish installation.
Phone with talk anytime (£11+£5) +£39 installation.
The rep says she would be better off getting the sky HD package (even though I dont think her TV is HD) as she would get free dish installation and free line installation (saving £69) and free BB and a free modem (I told him she does not have a computer anyway!).
The HD element is only free for the first 6 months, so it would cost her an extra £60 after the free 6 months HD, upto the end of her 12 month contract. He said she would have to get HD for the free BB, but on the website free BB seems available with sky+ without going HD.....im confused!
I guess its a saving of £9, but wonder if its worth it, we risk 'forgetting' to cancel the HD element in 12 months, and also wonder if im missing something else.
We are sky customers and recommended my mum via their £50 M&S voucher offer. He was adament that the £50 only went to the referrer (ie us), not my mum as well, but on their website it clearly says £50 to both parties.
Are they pushing HD hard at the moment?

He also said he didnt need the unique reference code from the email to activate the £50 voucher.
Is he giving me duff advice? Is it a good deal? Am I missing something?
Advice gratefully recieved, as we have to take up the offer today, as it expires this evening!!

...also wanted to add, My friend moved house a couple of months ago, and she had a sky+ package, she was told it would be a new contract and they didnt do 'just sky+ packages' anymore, so they had to pay an extra £10 a month for the HD...but sky do still do sky+ only!!!, so she was misinformed and ended up paying more....Im just making sure I dont make a similar mistake!0

I'd go for the HD deal because the box is worth so much more so if she ever cancelled she could sell it (i guess there's nothing stopping her from selling it on ebay straight away and buying a sky+ box to replace it with, she'd be quids in). The thing is HD is the future so if yuou don't go for it now but need it down the line you'll have to buy a box, if you already have it now for 9 quid you're ready aren't you.
The £50 is for both parties, 50 to you, 50 to her, don't let them pretend it isnt and I believe your friend has been lied to and could cancel their contract if they wanted to as it was miss-old because they do do and always have done sky plus deals0 -

Thanks for the reply, I understand that if she took the sky+ option, it would be a sky+ HD box anyway, but without the HD element activated. Could be wrong though, I am getting confused!0 -
I was under the impression that with HDsky+ box that if you cancelled the HD package you would no longer be able to use the sky+ recording facility nor would you be able to watch what you had recorded on the HDsky+ box. I may be wrong but I'm sure someone would be able to clarify this and correct me if I'm wrong.0

There is a sky+ box available and a sky+HD box - the two are different. If you take a look at their website it shows both.0 -

I did tell her, but she said she cant be bothered to complain about it, and she might as well keep the HD now! (theres no helping some people!!!!) I guess Sky rely on the custom of such people!:rotfl:0 -

Ive had a look, and they look the same, (not that i know what a sky+ box looks like!:o)

I picked up a leaflet from somewhere, and im sure it said sky+ would get a sky+ HD box, but without access to HD channels. (incase people want to upgrade).
Maybe thats what they ment to say to my friend, they dont do sky+ boxes any more, not that they dont do sky+packages!0 -

I hope someone else will be along to say if this is the case or not, just in case I'm wrong but this is what I've understood!
I have been looking on their website at different deals recently as I have been contemplating getting a skyHD+ box. After the first year I would be able to cancel the HD package and watch free to air channels, however, I have read somewhere that doing this would result in the loss of sky+ function!
I have been comparing different deals but after a while it does get confusing.;)0 -
