I would mention this to your mum despite it being upsetting for her as the neighbour sounds abit shady, andhow you said your mother was upset i dont think she would have asked of this.0

Not being funny, but before you go in guns blazing, check your facts. The receptionist may (?) have got the wrong end of the stick. If you've got this wrong, you could really upset your mother further."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
What happened to client confidentiality?
I'm surprise the vet told you anything as you are not the animals owner - they shouldn't give out details to anyone who might ring up with any story.
Something funny about this tale.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Well if a vet put a cat to sleep on the say so of someone who didn't even own the animal, I don't think they will be too hot on administrative details.0 -
Vets can and will put healthy animals down, that was one reason I decided not to be a vet (the other was the 3 A's at A level!!)
I would double check with the vets that it actually was your mum's cat as only the otehr day my DD and DH were waiting and 2 sets of people came out of the rooms crying in the space of 10 minutes! So therefore vets put animals to sleep a lot and maybe the receptionist has got the wrong cat.
If it is correct I would ask your mum if she took Snowy to the vet or her friend and then go from there, but definiately I would persue this.0 -

When I took my cat to be pts, the vet almost didn't do it because I didn't have my adoption papers with me. He did it because the cat was obviously in a great deal of distress (couldn't breathe.)
I don't understand why a vet would do that without the owner's consent. And I don't understand why the receptionist would tell you without the owner's consent, regardless of how well she knows you.
I'd double check all my facts before I did anything as this sounds very unprofessional to say the least.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

OP can I ask why your mother didn't take the cat to the vets? Sorry I don't mean to be intrusive or anything.:o0
