would you say something if it were you

My mother phoned me last night and told me her cat had been poorly for the last couple of days and that a friend of hers had taken him to the vets and apparently the vet said she had a heart problem that she had been born with and there was nothing he could do and it would be better to put her sleep, my mother rescued this cat 3 years ago and she was beautiful, pure white and made a really lovely cat (snowy) and we all loved her so you can imagine how upset we all were, my mother was devastated and could hardly talk from crying, today l said to my daughter why dont you phone the vets up (weve been with them for years) and ask for an explanation as to what was wrong with her, the receptionist took the details and when she came back on the phone she said the lady that brought Snowy in requested that she be put to sleep as she was always attacking other cats (not true) and that she had nothing wrong with her and was a perfectly healthy cat, theres only 2 explanations, 1 that my mother was sick of the cat l know she killed birds and my mother didnt like it, or 2 my mothers friend took it upon herself to have her put down, my daughter is furious at my mother as she went to see her last night and cried with her and even took flowers for her, what would you do would you say something or just let it go,

I'm confused - has the cat actually been put to sleep?

I dont know, l wouldnt put it past my mother, but on the other hand why not just take her to a rescue centre if she was fed up with her it seems so cruel and l would hate to think my mother would be capable of doing this

She has definetly been put to sleep as the vets receptionist confirmed it

So a vet has put a perfectly healthy animal to sleep on the say so of someone who did not even own the cat?

You need to get to the bottom of this. This is outrageous and if it turns out that this so called 'friend' is the one behind it, I would be ringing the police and the RSPCA.

You need to confront both your mum and the friend - and the vets.

Oh that is awful. I would speak to your mother and ask her. If she had nothing to do with this, I would contact the police. That's outrageous. I also can't believe a vet would do that to a healthy cat. Why did they not suggest she take it to a rescue?

I would mention this to your mum despite it being upsetting for her as the neighbour sounds abit shady, andhow you said your mother was upset i dont think she would have asked of this.

I would first double check with the vets again

I would ask the vet first because as far as I know a vet is not allowed to euthanase a healthy animal without good reason.
