Happens to me now. I used to be able to get exactly £15 in every time. But now that the price per litre has shot up, no matter how lightly or briefly I squeeze the lever I can't get exactly £15 worth.
I prefer the system where you pay first, say £15, then the machine automatically stops once it reaches that amount. I last saw these in the States.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Why not stop at some random amount? You don't have to buy petrol to the an exact pound
xx.93p will do, why try to edge it up xx.00p ?0 -

I hate having loads of coins rattling around in my pockets. So if I have a twenty in my pocket that'll mean I'll get a fiver note in change.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

I saw an interesting idea a while ago in a petrol staion.
There was a dish of pennies on the counter and the idea was that if you go over by a penny then you just take one from the dish and give it the assistant.
If someone gets a penny change then they throw it in the dish so it all balances out.
There was a name for it but can't remember what is was.
I used to work in a petrol station and we had one of these. More often than not, quite a few people used to put their change in it and only the odd person took money out. My boss was a lovely, charitable man so when the little basket had a pound in, he used to put it in the till, take a pound out and put it in a bag stuck to the underside of the counter. When he had £10, he'd give it to whatever charity he saw fit. In the 2 years I worked there, he, and the general public donated over £100 to charity.
I miss that job :-(Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)0 -
Interesting seeing those last few posts...I saw the penny pot thing in a petrol station near Warwick earlier this year, first time I'd ever come across one
I saw one in my local and I just assumed it was a tip dish... I did think people were being a bit stingy with their tips!
