I think you'll find there's as many favourite christmas cake recipes as there are old stylers! My advice would be to pick one you like the sound of and give it a go. For what it's worth I tend to use Delia's recipe for trad. Christmas cake - bulletproof!

I like Nigella's, it's in "Feast". My copy has pencil notes & blobs of ingredients on that page, as any good recipe should have ;)

    Hi Zippy,

You haven't left it too late. :) Delia's Christmas cake is my favourite recipe, but you'll find lots more recommendations and advice on making Christmas cakes on this thread:

I made the Christmas cake from Annie Bell's "Gorgeous cakes" last year. Quite a few people said it was the best they'd ever tasted. Everything I've made from that book has been fabulous.

  • mention of the C WORD IN October usually makes me cross yet here I am with the ingredients for my Delia cake all laid out and ready to go. Also bought 1 present yesterday, must be going soft in old age or spending too much time on here...

Slightly off thread but I went to get my ingredients on Saturday and ended up visiting two different supermarkets to get everything! The baking section in both looked like a plague of locusts had visited, so there must have been a lot of cake baking going on this weekend!!

I made Delia's Christmas Cake yesterday, the house smelt fabulous for hours. I made it for the first time last year and found it very easy to make and it tasted lovely too! :p
