  • Evening all, im after a recipe for an xmas cake (i dont know if im leaving it too late), have used the search but cant find something specific so just wondering if anyone has a link they know of or a straighhtforward recipe?

I havent made one for about 5 years as we dont like them but i have a lot of pre packed dried fruit i was gonna use in a bread and butter pudding for my dad (i cook a lot for my dad cos he cant be bothered eating a lot of the time) but thought id do him a nice cake instead for xmas.

Thanks in advance, apologies for my poor use of the search function!

if you google delia smith I'm sure her website has a christmas cake recipe - I like the whisky one she does to cut into four pieces - I just don't cut into four pieces and I prefer brandy but it works well whichever spirit I've used. Recipes are always adapted a bit by me - not how Delia would prefer it I'm sure!

As this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add this thread to the existing cake thread so that you can browse more easily :D

  • I use a Mary Berry recipe for Victoriana Christmas cake. The secret to it is soaking the fruit in ¼ pint of sherry for 3 days before cooking, so that it's really plumped up:

From experience it is good even when made a couple of weeks before Christmas! (and even better if you add more alcohol after it's cooled!)

I know this is a long shot BUT does anyone have the Christmas cake recipe out of LAST YEARS Tesco magazine!

It was the best ever Christmas cake i have ever made! so why i didnt keep the recipe i dont know
  • I think I'm going for Delia's recipe so thanks for posting that. On the adding booze front, I notice that the Mary Berry recipe says that you can use orange juice instead of sherry.

  • Hello :santa2:
Not sure if this is the correct place to post!

Would anybody have a Christmas cake recipe they would like to share, I have used the same one for years which has worked out quite expensive for all of the fruits, and especially having to put the oven on for so long....5 hours:eek: I wondered if there are any recipes that don't need to be cooked for so long.

    Thanks in advance :D
