That nightmare cake looked really good. Makes a change from snowmen and robins!

I've only made christmas cake twice. The first recipe I tried was Delia's and the second was one that the magazine House Beautiful published. They were both really nice, so now the decision comes. Make one of those recipes again, or try another one?
I think I might try another one simply because all christmas cake recipes sound so good!
  • Has anyone tries a xmas cake in a remoska?

  • Does anyone have any nice christmas cake recipes they can share? I am planning on making my own this year. I would like a square one and a good size as there are six of us. I used to have one with nuts in too but I can't find that. I prefer the dark fruit ones that you feed over a month. Thanks in advance

  • I'll add this to the current Christmas Cake thread ;) I make Delia's (think the recipe is in that thread) and add extra nuts :D

My fruit is soaking as we speak!! Am going to bake tomorrow - I am using Nigella Lawson's recipe from Feast. I made Christmas pudding last year and that was such a success I'm branching out - also I had to buy the fruit for the cake this year so I have leftovers for the pudding!

Tesco had 200g glace cherries (both natural and bright red coloured ones) for 99p this week, so it's a bit better than buying the small tubs.

Also I've added a splash of orange flower water to the fruit along with the brandy - it's something else that needed using up!

I've made Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Fruit Cake for the past 2 years and everyone loves it. It is very dark and moist as it uses chopped prunes as well as raisins and currants. The beauty of it is, you can make it the week before Christmas and it still tastes gorgeous. I usually make one in early December to check the oven timings (as my oven seems on the cool side) and another, the week before Christmas. It can also double up as a substitute for Christmas pud, as it is lovely warm, with cream!

do you have the recipe for this pls?
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • Hiya,
Can anyone point me in the right direction for 'the best' christmas cake recipe?
I have done a search here but couldn't find anything.
I would really like one that is thoroughly tried and tested, rather than one just pulled off a website. I've got a few in my books but I dont know how they turn out.
    Many thanks.

I always use Delia's one. It alway turns out lovely.
  • I made my first ever Christmas cake from a recipe in the Daily Mail magazine last year. I'm NOT a baker at all, but I surprised myself.

I'm at work at the moment but will try to find the recipe later.
