you could always ake individual ones, they dont take v long to cook at all and are v cute, bake them in bean tins etc. if you dont have enough tiny tins

  • You could also just use value dried fruits and add some more value sultanas to keep the cost down.

After spending hours (or so it seemed!) by the dried fruit shelf in Sainsbury this week I bought Basics dried fruit and I'll use that with some additional sultanas (BTW is there some sort of national Value/Basics sultana shortage?) . I couldn't see much difference between the quality of the fruits - certainly not enough to pay the difference.

Would it be ok if you alternate the feeding of the cake with orange juice and brandy? Could this produce a less alcoholic tasting cake?

    Hi,

I was hoping to make my own Christmas Cake this year, never done one before and so was hoping someone may be able to help me out with a tried and tested recipe.

I realise I may have left it a little late, but would still like to give it a go (and maybe make 2 small ones as gifts too for Grandparents).

I am ok at making Cakes, but unsure what to do with a Christmas Cake. I thought it might be a nice thing to do with my 2 Boys too (7 and 4).

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Zippy x

  • Not quite a traditional cake, but one that can be made nearer Christmas is Nigella's Chocolate Christmas Cake: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/chocolatefruitcake_84675.shtml

    Very easy and extremely yummy!
