iPhone or not....
I am due an upgrade soon, and can get an iPhone 3G (not 3GS) for free, on £30 a month.
However - I am sort of tempted to go for a HTC phone - are these any good? Are they similar?
If I get a HTC phone, I may get at a later point a iPod Touch - from my understanding, these are near enough the same as the iPhone, except you can not make calls or send texts. Any internet functions can only be done when in a WiFi zone. Is this correct?
What are the pro's and cons of iPhone/HTC phones?

There are a number of threads running about the HTC desire - the "top" phone at the moment.
There are also plenty about the iphone.
In our house we have both and I prefer the Desire.
I prefer "open" software as opposed to apples closed system (yes I know you can jailbreak them)0 -
HTC desire is amazing i think its way better than the iphone i have it and my partner has a iphone and now she wants one xD0

How easy is it to get apps etc for HTC phones? Ie with iPhone there are thousands easily and readily available via iTunes. But with the likes of Nokia phones, it can take a lot of searching to find decent ones.0

Very easy. There is not as large a range as for the iphone but I have found plenty to suit me.0

Personally, I would forget the 3G, it's an old phone and apart from the App Store and UI, it has little going for it.
HTC are a manufacturer and have many phones. The one that is most cited as a rival for the iPhone is the Desire.
As for Pros/Cons..
The iPhone looks nice, has street cred, large App Store and excellent simple user experience. However, because it's designed for anyone to use, it's not easily customisable, also the hardware (camera, processor etc) is behind current devices and IMO it is overpriced for what it is.
The HTC Desire is extremely customisable and has excellent hardware, the Android Market doesn't have as many apps as the iPhone App Store, but apparently has more free apps now. It has upgradeable memory and removable battery. It is initially more difficult to get to grips with than the iPhone for a novice. There are a few minor issues and bugs, but most should be fixed in the next OS release due soon.
Both are pretty power hungry, so if you're used to a few days use on your current device, it may come as a bit of a shock to charge every night.0 -
If you buy a Desire, you may not need an iPod Touch. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

I read in the Independent today the new iPhone will be showcased on the 7th of June and on sale later that month. My advice would be to wait.0

I want a free phone though! And I very much doubt that the new one will be free. Hence why 3G at the moment and not 3GS - although I suppose there is a chance that when the new one comes out the 3GS will be free as well.0 -

Not (IMO) if the alternative is a free Desire.Maybe worth waiting a month then and get a free 3GS.There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
