Is the new version too bright?

I'm wondering if that's why I can't read it at all well any more: I've had to increase the font size which of course leads to lots of scrolling, but it was either that or getting my glasses ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

You might try 245,245,245. It's still bright enough to appear to be a pretty pure white but not quite at maximum intensity. 235,235,235 is perhaps a bit too much gray even though it's supposed to be reference white for TV display.
Has to be great fun to read people saying they are having trouble with the different colour when it's the same colour. I do wonder how this might develop when monitor maximum possible brightness levels seem to be steadily increasing, while backlights decrease in brighness with age and few people use calibration tools.
Savvy_Sue, try a nice 30" monitor at 2560x1600 resolution.Given the talk here about readability it's a bit sad that I have no trouble at all with most text reading on a 15" laptop display at 1600x1200 resolution, so it's not size that's the issue in what this topic is discussing.

Jamesd, its even more fun when you realise the old version is brighter, as there is more white, which makes the text 'look' blacker.
The text font, colour and size are identicle in both, the white in the background is identical in both, its whats missing from the background that i fooling certain people, including me, into percieveing the new version is brighter.0 -
When the new version was popped up, one of the first few things I did was to check the bg colours.
I was very surprised to find them both the same. Something not printable muttered under by breath was the reaction if I remember.
However, perception and context are key. Whatever the cause, the new version does seem uncomfortable to view for any length of time, while the old one does not. Or at least, not to such a great extent as the new one.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

More black in the old version, it has to be, its the only reason/differance, everything else says the old version should be the one we are complaining about.
Tis strange though0 -
I can't see a difference but can sense the difference, probably the green lends some extra brightness to the whiteness. The older version appears cream and this one appears offwhite. The contrast is apparent in this version, yes the older one is gentler because it had no borders to reflect on to the background. Grey would dim the bright format but then I feel we might not be able to use white in it effectively.0

Now that makes all the difference for me on this particular display.
I think others may possibly prefer something darker, or perhaps even the main .page background off-white as well?
Then again, getting it perfect for everyone is just not possible....Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Just had a play in firefox, and yes it would be better for me with the background toned down, at hi res 1680x1050, but if i drop the res down, it makes les differance the closer to 1024 i get.
But like i said, they may well tweak it some more yet anyway0 -

Well, I just set it to #F6F6F6, which is the same as the new post background colour.
That works even better for me as well.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
