Okay, some of you totally disagreed with the issue of National ID cards, personally, I think everyone should carry ID and was keen to get one as soon as I was eligible. Yes, I have been caught out and paid my £30 for this little card that I could carry easily and use frequently to travel to and from Europe in preference to carrying a "passport" when I have no intention of travelling out of the EU (been there and done it) Yes, I want a credit towards renewing my near to expire passport or a refund. After all, for someone that has worked full time since the age of 15,always paid my own way,had my state pension moved back 18months, my pay frozen.......I can ill afford to loose £30. RANT OVER

I've got an ID card too, I used it two times to get to Berlin, it was way more handy than a passport, I could just stick it in my wallet and go.

I'm gonna be using it for probably the last time this month :(.

I kind of wish they would at least keep them for those that actually want them.

Why do you think everyone should carry ID ??

why should i have to prove/ justify who i am to a incompetent government ( Mr Browns lot )

if you think it makes a safer society then you are very mistaken . Labour said that invading Iraq would make us safer ...it hasn't .

i just do not understand why people where in such a rush to hand over £30 for something that was under such threat .

you must have known this scheme was a political hot potato
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

That is a bit 'straw man' and is really not relevant to the point of ID cards as useful (i.e. of direct use to the holder in their everyday lives) documents as the practice in many countries shows. And confirmed by those in this thread who held the British version and found it likewise useful.

I am sure that in this country people are being used to being treated fairly, and it is one of the best things about it. I am sure they felt that if it were to be cancelled, and the service by this ID-issuing monopoly that is Her Majesty's Government were to be withdrawn, a fair solution would be offered by the representatives of Her Majesty, the fount of justice within this Kingdom.

If a company took over another whose services you had used and had paid for in advance, if they then cancelled it you would expect some refund for the unused service.

I have NEVER read such sycophantic claptrap in my live. All those who have wasted £30 on an ID card thanking each other for their pointless and more often than not, incorrect posts.

Please point out anything factually incorrect in anything I have written. And pointlessness is often a matter of subjectivity depending on many factors, including personal levels of politeness.
