Avast is a bit lighter than avira, but stick with avira for now, and work on the rest.
Not in my experience, Avira has always been very light, currently 12500 KB on here.
Avira is the best choice in this case because of the lack of RAM.
There's no need to un-install SAS, just open the program, go to the preferences button and under "Startup options",untick, "Start SuperAntiSpyware when Windows starts".Move along, nothing to see.0 -
install and run these
Trim startup apps safely - http://www.malwarebytes.org/startuplite.php
Cleanup memory leaks - http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem
Go into c:\windows\tasks, clean system memory, schedule, advanced, and change the cleanmem frequency from every 30 mins, to every 2 mins
then post a new hijackthis log and commit figures!!

These are in my add/remove programmes, and I dont think I do use the, frequently, do I need them, they look quite big files compared to a lot of the other ones.
BT Yahoo Applications 90 mb used frequently
Electronic Library 251.00 mb fused frequently
I'm getting tied now, would you mind if I picked this up in the morning, I dont want to make mistakes. I arent that clever to get it right as it is lolHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

If you don't use them, uninstall them, but it won't help speed unless they run at startup or have browser plugin elements.!!

There are a lot of components to Avira - avscan, avguard, sched, avgnt ,update, avcenter, avshadow, avnotify, various drivers etc, when they kick in (eg at boot), it uses a lot of ram, the peak memory usage of the component you are looking at will probably be significantly higher than current commit.!!

It sounds like you may be better off re-installing Windows if theres nothing on there you particularly need - it will be alot quicker than trying to get rid of some infections, and most PCs no matter how old run much better with a fresh install!
To optimize your PC get a program like Tuneup Utilities or System Mechanic - they'll clean out your disks and registry and also allow you to stop programs from automatically starting when Windows loads - something very useful indeed!
As far as RAM memory - I usually use Crucial - and if you go to their website (just google crucial) it will do an automatic scan of your system and advise the best RAM for your PC.0 -

I see where your coming from, though mines not like that
Windows 7 Avira10 - idle
avshadow.exe 892k
avguard.exe 8,216k
sched.exe 516k
avgnet.exe 1844k
hardly killer figures
Update 9,220k (On for seconds)
Scanning certainly jumps up ~ 76,500 ish. But then scan time is WAY lower than Avast:idea:0 -
i know i have already said it, however it was meant more tounge in cheek at the time since most people would not consider trying it which i understand since it is moving away from something they know, however after having seen how low the system specs are i just want to ask the question
what are you actually planning on using it for?
if it is just basic web and office work i would seriously suggest looking into one of the low spec ubuntu derivatives like xubuntu which is a free operating system and comes with everything most people need such as a built in office program, firefox etc
ok so you cant run certain programs (which have been designed to run on windows and Mac only) such as microsoft office without a little bit more effort (although you can get a lot of them running if they are important) however 99% of all programs you can get on windows have an equivelent program on xubuntu and all the programs are generally shockingly easy to install and most of the time free of charge as well, you also do not need to worry about virus's since it doesnt get any so that free's up extra system resources by not having to have a antivirus running which will make it run even faster
anyways it is just a thought if you are interested you can download and burn of the disk and then run it in LiveCD mode which runs the entire operating system from the CD and your systems RAM and makes NO changes to your hard drive - the only problem with this is that since it is running from the CD and RAM it runs much slower than it would do if installed on your hard drive however it will give you a feel for the operating system and allow you to see if all your hardware is recognised (drivers) before you decide if you want to install itDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Morning, well I am now totally confused. It has started up quite quick, and all I will be using this pc for is surfing and putting pics on.
Did that log show anything, or can I delete them now, since they have my name all over them haha!He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

For whatever reason I cannot reply to your PM (?)
Tia_Maria06 has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.
If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove Tia_Maria06 from the recipient list and send the message again.
Anyways, at a quick glance you should be ok to remove the log. As I teied to say in the PM, im unsure why your concerned as NO ONE would be able to identify you from that
Follow closed advice, he knows what hes doing to remove RAM related problems:idea:0
