I joined MCD a few months ago and yet to use one I bought one today infact. Hopefully I will have no problems.
Do you seriously think that Martin would be "in" on any part of the watchesshop.com scam? Martin is probably a very rich man from his own right do you seriously think that he needs this sort of "back hander" so to speak?? I think not.
Martin set this site up to help consumers not rip them off and so far he has done a very good job with it. I have spoken to Martin many of times about financial issues which he has always replied personally to my situation. (thanks Martin)
I think what you are suggesting that Martin is doing is totally absurd and maybe you should get your head checked out.
I don't think for a minute that MCD were in on the mishap with watchesshop.com why would they want to rip people off when they are probably making alot of money every day they would soon get a bad reputation and it's not worth their while when they would have to give us a refund. It doesn't make sense!
It seems that Martin and his team have put alot of time and effort into sorting this mess out you could atleast show him some gratitude that he hasn't turned his back on it all.
If you are that fantastic where is your website to help consumers and offer fantastic deals??
Martin isn't forcing us to buy these deals is he sat with you at the computer forcing you to buy a deal? I think not.
Give Martin a break eh he is only human like the rest of us.0 -

As for the offensive & insulting posts that Martin has accused me of I think "you should get your head checked out" is pretty much up there with offensive & insulting.
Note, I have never communicated with you in any way before.
So I ask of you to please point out where I said the above?
Which I didn't by the way which only goes to show that you are more than slightly mentally disturbed.
& when you don't find it because it isn't there why don't you come back & fill me in on what you think I am suggesting because at the moment you are truly clueless. Not Again0 -
Gosh, 1984ReturnsForReal you have a very large chip on your shoulder about Martin and the team at MSE; perhaps it is time for you to put your issues behind you and move on.
As for me I would rather be an optimist who is sometimes wrong then a pessimist who is always right.
Thanks for all you do MSE!0 -
Maybe 1984ReturnsForReal tried to chat Martin up one day, but his/her advances were rejected?0

Kitty Wren, Smiling Assassin & 1984ReturnsForReal.....
Please can someone create a seperate thread called, "Lets all have a B**ch at each other" then we can all join & have some serious fun.
Personally, I created this thread as a newbie to show you how a company can try & take advantage of us.
1984ReturnsForReal, I suspect you have your head screwed on very tightly about consumer related issues & have much experience in this field. I would value your opinion on the watchesshop.com matter.
I know you will defend yourself if people air their opinions about your sometimes rather colourful opinions, but on this occasion, I would love some advice on the Watch company & not Martin, MSE or MCD.

MaxSF,
Here is a something to think about.
YOU own a shop, its a shop that wants to sell 1 type of item made by as many trendy manufacturers as possible (the product could be anything). hats, gloves, shoes, watches, sunglasses, ties, or whatever.
On building your empire you have decided to go down the route of low price, high volume as opposed to high price, low volume.
Sensible choice going for low price, high volume. BUT it comes with drawbacks. Lower margins. High volumes of stock = higher outlay.
The balance when expanding your business is difficult to get right. Cash is tight.
Marketing will solve your problem. BUT that is an expensive outlay on already tight margins & you need to keep your prices low, lower than your competitors.
Solution. Pay per deal marketing.
Excellent. Work out the cost per deal & inflate the price on those that need inflating or withdraw from sale those you cannot possibly afford to do the deal on because pricing them to include costs would put them at extortionate levels because you are already selling them for pennies over cost.
Unless your margins are massive & your overheads virtually nothing could you afford to take a product for, say, £50.00 (already cheap) & technically sell it for £15.
So, you have 3 choices to build your client base by getting along with this deal you think is a great idea:
1) Put your prices up before the deal launches (gets advertised in any way) & withdraw some products
2) Put your prices up during & withdraw some products
3) Keep your prices the same & hope you don't run out of cash & have your family living on the streets by Monday PM.
Personally I wouldn't blame any retailer withdrawing a product because they were going to lose money on it. Because a weekend of it could see them going bankrupt (well not bankrupt but certainly out of cashflow).
Believe it or not. I respect the guy you spoke to from the company saying he was going to withdraw them from sale & MCD didn't inform him (or he forgot). Because that would of been the sensible business decision & he was honest about it. He/they/whoever cocked up & he is not hiding behind anything.
MSE have said MCD have a contract with the retailer. So MCD are covered somehow for losses.
I haven't read the terms you agreed to with MCD & I presume that as MCD are covered with the retailer then you are covered by MCD in the event of price inflation resulting in the devaluation of the voucher (if not you should be).
The problem is its all to do with what your deal is with MCD up until the actual purchase of the watch, sunglasses, tie, shoes or whatever not what the end retailer does or doesn't do (I presume). Not Again0 -
The thing is though, its not just this deal, it was the dermalogica deal and I think there was a similar issue with the sunglasses deal.
I am not under the belief that Martin Lewis has anything to do with this- he knows how savvy most of us have turned out to be and something like this....well its just to transparent. Added to that I don't think its in Martin Lewis's character, he tends to want to get revenge from companies rather then cause problems!
I do think MyCityDeals are in on it though, its happened now 3 times in less then a month? (possibly more?) its too much of a concidence for them to have nothing to do with it.0 -

I wouldn't know who is or isn't in on it.
All I know is there will be a hell of a lot of money floating about that isn't in the consumers pocket where it belongs & the funny thing is most of the consumers will be totally unaware they have just overpaid.....
Night.Not Again0
