It seems My City Deals regularly do deals where the "shops" rip off the consumer & Martin at the moment thinks is fine & dandy business.

My City Deals earn £17, the shops get a high turnover at the same profit & people like Martin get £6 an order (10,000 orders worth).

I think he may change his mind soon & give the money up.....

What charity did I say Martin?

Martin is completely against it, and is getting rather miffed they keep doing it.

MyCityDeal has a contract that the shop CANNOT change their prices!
Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

    Hi,

I just wanted to clear a few things up on the Sunglasses deal

    • Firstly, multiple members of the team, including but far from exclusively Martin, have been reading and responding on the forum every working day since this was featured in the email, not to count the hours spent emailing and phoning MyCityDeals and Sunglasses-Shop to ensure a working solution for this, which I believe we now have. To be told that we have distanced ourseves from this, along with some other pretty offensive comments on the forum over the past week, is a pretty bitter and grossly unfair pill for all of the team here to swallow.

    • Secondly, assuming that our commercial team can get the same payments as refer-a-friend or sign up deals (ie. the £6 you are referring to from MCD) with sites like this would lead you to an answer that is far off the mark. However, as has been reiterated multiple times in the past week, no deal is ever chosen for the weekly email, or on-site articles, or anything else we write, based on whether we receive an affiliate payment.

Further than this, as the site's web editor, who has worked at MSE for five years, I have never been made aware of ANY details of ANY affiliate deal. With regard to the £6 payment mentioned, our marketing director simply told me what I have posted in the bullet above. This is because it simply does not come into consideration AT ALL. As ever, all details on this can be found here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/funding

    • Thirdly, assuming we mention deals, products or services just because they pay us money is frankly absurd when put up against the evidence to the contrary. For example, it is widely known that paid links to Life Insurance brokers can return £100 per customer. However, if you check out our article (http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ins...term-insurance), we don't link to any paid-for comparison services, as we firmly believe that they are not the best things for our readers. Instead, the much smaller sites that cannot afford to pay out commission get you guys cheaper policies, so we link to them.

Now of course, we would love to get paid for everything we recommend, as that way the site gets more money, and we have said this in the past. Yet when the absolute best thing for the customer is a way that doesn't pay, we strictly say 'so be it', and tell all the details of the non-paying service with the same gusto. This pattern is repeated far and wide across the website.

    Martin is completely against it????

Martin just done a deal with a big kick back with a company (for whatever reason is really here nor there) that has (take your pick) robbed, deceived, mislead or just plain relieved people of money....

    So far:

    Watches
    Sunglasses
    Spa Treatment
    Beauty Goods

    Completely against it??

But keeps the money, other peoples money I might add, from a pot of money obtained in far from proper means....

Like I said. He needs to sack his PR person if they are advising him it is a good thing to do.

    Thanks for that.

I really think if you have to try and attempt to justify it the problem runs much, much deeper than I previously thought.

Whilst I appreciate all your efforts as an entity, a team & as a business, MSE is, whether you like it or not, "Brand Martin". Even more so in the last 12 months.

My own personal thoughts on the matter of MCD & Sunglasses Shop (& others) are indeed unprintable. Not that anyone could ever sue me or MSE because there is factual evidence to back it up. However, these thoughts would last 2 minutes on here, they would be erased by yourselves.

I suggest you & the team & Martin stay well away from this type of 4th Party Contract.

Please also keep in mind I know exactly how that pot of money that "funded MSE" came about.................. & so does Martin.......

    Aha! So they're scammers huh?
Makes sense. I bought 2 mycitydeal vouchers a couple of months ago for an £18 each lunch deal in a Glasgow Restaurant that I had never tried before. They were £6 each so it looked like a bargain, until me and the OH got there and realised we could only choose from a set lunch menu and guess what? The whole menu was priced at £6 and not £18, a deal that runs throughout the year in the restaurant. We felt a bit duped but had that whole embarrassment thing going on where we didn't want to cause a fuss so had some food anyway. It was ok, probably won't go back though.
    Nice marketing/rip off skills.

I called the customer services at watchesshop.com just to be told they cant do anything to help, i must use the websites "Contact Us" mail page to send the complaint direct to their MD Mr Danny Toffel.

I asked about the price match to their exact same watches they're selling on Amazon (one is only £45 too) but i got the same answer, talk to the MD who isnt in the office.

Im emailing them now. Back soon

After sending them a mail via their site, the MD called me pretty much straight away.
I would love to post what what said but as i'm new on here, i'm not sure what I can & can't quote.

If one of the MSE bods could please let me know.

    Its worth it.
