Dont get me started on that advert, I saw it last night and got the rage, my husband left the room as I was shouting at the TV because of it. Im a great believer in germs, we need germs to get immunity to stuff, I dont have any 'antibacterial' stuff in my house i use good old soap and water to wash my hands and Ive not keeled over in 37 years yet.

    this ^^
and yes it might be gross, but I regularly eat my lunch after mucking out the horses, and often eat with a dog on my knee. And I don't always wash my hands whilst doing this ;)
Oddly, I have never had food poisoning/vomiting, despite eating exactly the same meal as some friends who were violently ill. My Dad likes to say I'm tall because I've spent so many years stood in horse s*it :rotfl:

See now I don't think that's gross at all, its natural and proves that its actually ok as you haven't keeled over! I can't be doing with all this 'antibacterial, you'll die from germ overdose if you don't use this stuff NOW' business. :rotfl: My thoughts are the more you use that stuff then are subjected to normal amounts of everyday germs you're MORE likely to keel over as you've no immunity to it. Oh I could stand on this soap box (pun intended) all day long!

Its good to see that so many people agree with me. I am deffinitely a good old soap and water type person my friend wont even allow tea towels in her house as they apparently harbour to many germs (erm not if you wash then regular) guess who's kids have developed allergies, asthma and get every bug going ?? :-D

I'll agree to doing things differently.

Tennesse is a beautiful place and I bet you had a beautiful wedding! Where you up in the mountain range or on the other side? Still all of it pretty.

I do tend to wear my heart on my sleeve which is not always good, but it's just how I was brought up. I don't feel that everyone is out to get me, thought never crossed my mind. I'm just a bit, ok alot, protective of my home country. I love it here and the people but do miss home, my mom still lives there.

I was married in Gatlinburg and spent my honeymoon there and Pidgeon Forge and then went back to stay with my folks in Kentucky. I do like that part of the states very much.

I know how you feel about your homeland, it riles me when my stepfather and my mum moan on about how dirty England has become (litter on the streets, general muck) and how expensive everything it, the Brits have no manners, teenage pregnancies, unmarried mother etc etc. Grates on my nerves.. I try to argue back but I just get shouted down!

I'm sorry if you took offence to my original post, no offence was intended, just a lighthearted remark!

There are a few of us in a group of friends, a couple of them make their kids wash their hands all the time, I and my other friend do not really bother - and I'll be honest, my kids eat their dinner without washing their hands too (have I really confessed to that sin). However, my kids have never been off sick from school with a bug. My son was sent home from school ill on Friday with a bug going around the school but he never got the sickness bit of it just the fever and tummy ache, the other kids have been vomiting everywhere for a few days.

I have another friend who disinfects everything and her child is allergic to everything going. There is definately a link. My house is tidy and clean, it is not disinfected as I am too busy to do that day in day out - and I think I would go quite mad!!

Thing is, lets say you wash your hands in a public loo then go out the door and touch the handle by someone who hasn't. You might never go out if you thought too much about germs.

Also, I have to admit that I usually do not use soap when I wash my hands, just water, because I end up with sore hands however I've not had any tummy bug either for many, many years. I cannot even remember the last time I was sick (bet it is tonight now, LOL!!).

We don't get sick fortunately, and have just general soap and water cleaning. My DD1 (not living at home) on the other hand is very fastidious about cleaning and has numerous sprays etc - and has more sore throats and tummy bugs than the rest of us put together.

Over 40 years ago my mum (she died 25 years ago), was very fond of saying that we would have to have a spoonful of dirt mixed in our meals as things were getting out of hand about cleanliness! Wouldn't like to think of what she would say now, and it's much worse now than then!

Does anyone else have the 5 second rule when you drop food? As long as it has not fallen into something gross it still gets eaten. Ha ha!! 'Quick, pick it up'.

Haha we have that one - if it's not too hairy (2 cats, mucho moulting) its ok, a quick blow on it and it's fine! Can't remember the last time I was ill :)

5 seconds, more like 15 in our house, unless the dog gets to it first :D
