I've got a couple of questions, I'm making a 3 tier bday cake, I'm going to be covering it in fondant and was wondering if I stack it on tuesday (I will be using cake dowels) for a party on friday will it be ok? Or do I need to stack it on the day of the party (I will be really busy so I'm hoping I don't)
Also I've got the photo cake toppers, they're the icing sheet ones not rice paper if I put them on the cake on tuesday will they still be ok for the party on Friday?

if stacking, are the layers going to be on boards, or are use you just using the dowels so it doesnt slip? unless its a cake that needs decorating around the tiers, i stack once its in position (im too accident prone to even think about carrying a stacked cake lol)

it should be ok to put the icing topper on on tuesday, but i find they fade quite quickly, so once put on the cake, keep in total darkness. really doing it the night before would be best as that gives it time to dry, but isnt so long in advance that you loose the colour

Thanks, I'm using boards aswell. I think I'll make time the night before then to stack it and put the toppers on, knowing me if I do it early something will go wrong, lol

basic glace icing (water and icing sugar) on some buns

still prefer to use buttercream for most cakes though, as i hate the taste of sugarpaste, and nine times out of ten, if im making the cake, i also get to eat it at some point,, so its purely self-indulgent lol

Right, ive been a lurker on here for goodness how long, and its my daughters birthday on the 12th, to which i would love to make the cake in secret from the OH lol! For one in case i fail miserably and for two, in the hope that i do succeed, for it to be a surprise!

She is an avid peppa pig fan, or ben and holly oh and loves tinkerbell and that sort of thing.

What would be the best and most economical cake for me to attempt. I have done a frog shaped cake before which worked out well but that may be 7 years ago and from one of the womans weekly kids cakes book.

Hmmm.... any help would be appreciated!?

    I have two cakes planned!
Im making a chocolate cake that i saw in a newspaper a few months ago for ILs to say thank for you everything they have done for us (and for ripping the recipe out of their newspaper for me! :D)
And my babys First birthday cake!

Its going to be in the shape of a number 1, (i need to make a template) and then i will ice with sugarpaste and im planning on making some CBeebies characters out of sugarpaste to sit on top.

I made some Chocolate cupcakes with Chocolate buttercream for DH yesterday as he always asks me to make him cakes :D

i think easiest to make would be a gaston cake

very simple decoration, and the shape is more or less round, so you most likely have a suitable tin

have a look at these ones for inspiration, you can make it as simple, or complex as you want
