Will be making the cupcakes tomorrow for the christening on Sunday. Is the rainbow dust glitter best used (sparingly) on buttercream or white icing ? and do I add it immediately or should it be sprinkled on the cupcakes Sunday morning ? Getting nervous now0

I thought I would share some of my girly cupcakes! I have to really get practising with my piping as I am meant to be doing a giant cupcake and loads of little ones for a friends wedding next year! I think I am getting there, but plenty more practise is needed! These ones are vanilla cupcakes with strawberry frosting and sprinkles! The cases are from Morrisons, 100 in different spotty colours, and was quite pleased with them as when I have used cheapish ones before, they have burned! So well reccommended!
I also gave the cakepops a shot last night, got a bit frustrated with the candy melts being to thick so I followed someones idea to add some vegetable oil, and re-tried coating them today, and I am quite impressed!Ill post a piccie later!

Well I made my pineapple and coconut cupcakes earlier........just tried one (as you do) and I found the pineapple sticks to the bottom of the paper cases...so probably next time I may put a dollop of mixture in first...and while faffing around making cupcake wrappers I forgot about my coconut and lime cake...so thats burnt...don't know if its saveable as still in the loaf tin...so mad with myself !0

Ah know how you feel hun hope it is savealbe for you. The glitter dust just needs a little sprinkle it doesnt matter when you do it as it satay the same eg: doesnt melt . I made double choc chip cookies yesterday out them in the oven and when I was clearing up the choc chips were still in the scales!!! so had to make another batch making sure they were added. :rotfl:Think I was to bustythinking of other things0 -
Well I'll make another coconut and lime cake later.... I've managed to cut the four sides off and looks okay...so I'll drizzle plenty of the icing over it. Going to attempt the mars bars melts next.... hope I don't bodge that....really I should of had a go before today. Pleased there's nothing on tv tonight because I think I'll be in the kitchen ! Thanks about the info regarding glitter...I think with my rice paper toppers (grandsons photo on it) I will leave putting them on cakes until the morning.0

Can anyone advise what kind of recipe they use for birthday cakes etc. (sponge and chocolate) I have my cupcakes just the way I like them but tried a new recipe for birthday cake (maderia recipe that I found online) and turned out really dry and heavy.Yearly Grocery Budget - £100.77/ £3500. January Treats Budget - £11.80 / £100.0

lisa, i dont think theres much difference between cornflour and icing sugar.....i once tried cornflour for rolling out on, but with you not being able to use it with fruit cake etc as it effects it, i just stuck to icing sugar as it can be used with anything.....and i get through LOADS of it with rolling out, buttercream etc
yeah theres a million and one ways to do things and people just have to use whats best for them....there no right or wrong really...only in extreme cases where you forget to add eggs to a cake mix like my SIL ha ha
I use cornflour for rolling out.....with fruit cakes! Well actually, I don't use anything except a greased surface for rolling my marzipan and sugar paste but I use cornflour when making sugar flowers or whatever for the decorations. How does it affect the fruit cake?0 -

I am new to this thread but have been making cupcakes for a few months, firstly for myself then word got around so have made some for 2 christenings and a couple of birthdays
I now fancy trying to decorate a cake but I have a couple of questions please
Is it easy to cover a square or round cake in fondant?
