BA and Virgin will not let you do a name change on any restricted fare ticket, which makes Ryanair look pretty flexible.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I think they add the increase in fare onto the £25.
The reasons for charging for name change are simple (see above). I do wish people would stop moaning. If you don't like LCCs T&C then don't buy their product.
In this case your insurance company will cover you, so there's actually no issue.Legal team on standby0 -
I AM going without my partner....this is the whole point of my question!!!

you are a new poster and came here to ask if there was any way you could get around the Ts & Cs of a booking and you do not like the fact that people have told you the facts that you cannot.
You say your partner is seriously ill in hospital so is unable to go but you are going on holiday without them. If they are ill they should be contacting their travel insurance to arrange refunds through them. The replacement person can buy the £185 ticket...depending on how much the original flight cost this may well be £100 more than the refund0 -

From Easyjet's T&Cs:
6.2.1 You are not entitled to change Flight reservations once confirmed, save that names of Passengers or Flights (subject to space being available) may be changed prior to check-in for the original Flight on payment of a fee per Passenger per Flight and any difference in Fares or taxes and other charges which may be applicable at the time the change is made, subject always to the conditions in our Carrier's Regulations.
For Ryanair it is a flat £100/€100 fee but they dont charge any change in the price of the flight.
This means which airline is better will depend on the cost of the flight at the time of booking and the cost when you want to change a name.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
