CAT I, CAT II and CAT III are used by film censors in Hong Kong and China.

Not sure what other parts of the Far East use for film classification though, but it is most certainly NOT a BBFC rating.

The guy is talking out of his !!!!!!, he's probably one of those idiots selling from home.

I'd never buy a DVD from an eBay auction. Too many fakes and conmen/women.

Think about it aswell, for the amount you pay for the DVD eg: £5, then add the ludicrous postage charged by eBay sellers etc, you'd be better off buying the real thing as most new DVD's, even of recent movies you can pick up for £10-£15 anyway.

Most people are too tight to cough up the extra £4 or £5 or so for the real thing, yet they'll quite happily 'cough up' a lung for a pack of cigarettes at £5 a time.

I'd rather buy the genuine article personally.

i know what you mean and as i said in the original post it wasnt me that bought it was my partner using my account and he didnt realise. He is far more trusting than me :rotfl: I will disagree with you on the buying dvd's from ebay though as thats mainly what i sell and i certainly dont sell copies! :rotfl:

Anyway i sent him a message this morning asking about the certication on the front of it and i have recieved this reply

The dvd is manufactured in Asia for the U.K market so will have the appropraite country certificate on them.

Like alot of products, it is cheaper to have them made in a factory in for example, Vietman or in China and ship them to the U.K. You will find many manufacturers do this. And the BBC will not manufacture the items, they contract it to a factory.

For instance, M&S have their own range of foods, they do not manufacture them, they are manufactured by major food production companies and labelled with the M&S brand.

If you recall, several years ago, Nike were slated for having their trainers made in Asia using slave labour that earned something like £2.50 per week. This happens with a massive amount of goods.

The dvds we buy in are made in Asia for the U.K market and thus we import them from Asia. On occasion we may sell the Australian version if we are unable to get the U.K version but all of them are primarily in English.

I hope this information is to your satisfaction.

    Regards

    - Personally i think he is talking out of his you know what but im unsure of how to reply

If, as he says, they are being made for the UK market, then they should be of a standard that would be expected of the UK market. There is obviously something about the standard of this DVD that has raised your suspicions.

Yes, M&S get goods made all over the place, but they are of a certain standard expected by M&S customers.

He's talking out of his !!!!!!. And he's illiterate.

Demand a refund. If he doesn't report him to FACT.

Also tell him this, if he's selling on so-called 'asian imports manufactured for the UK market' tell him that looking at his feedback it seems many of his customers complain of receiving counterfeit goods.

Seeing as this has happened on more than one occasion has he not considered changing supplier if they are selling on fake items?

Also tell him that even if he claims he is unaware the items are fake as he does not inspect the goods, he surely must have checked the returned goods to find they are counterfeit. If he wasd a reputable retailer he would have investigated the situation further rather than carry on selling goods knowing that they MIGHT be fake as he hasn't bothered to inspect them for quality and legality.

If he still pleads innocence, put it straight to him you'll report him to FACT and let them deal with the matter.

He sounds like a right rum character and the spiel he just fed to you is a big fob off.

F**k him. Demand your money back.

p.s: excuse language but I absolutely will not tolerate idiots who sell fake DVD's etc. I have no time for these losers. They should get a real job instead.
  • Also

Inspect the DVD you were sent. Does the cover AND the DVD label have BBFC certificates on it?

Also, check the underside of the DVD. Is the colour a blue colour? Compare it to a genuine DVD you have, compare the colours.

It'll be fake anyway, but just carry out the checks and all will become clear.

    Read that too.

And report him to FACT here:

Theoretically the DVDs could be pressed in Asia for distribution to the UK. However, only the official distributor can import them. Section 18(2)(a) of the The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 specifies it is an infringement of copyright to put into circulation in the EU copies of a work not previously put into circulation in the EU without the consent of the copyright holder.

Agree, except to add that if FACT does nothing about it, I would seriously consider keeping the DVD and giving the seller +ve feedback.

Why? Because if FACT, the body that is constantly exhorting us not to buy fakes, itself does absolutely zilch when you identify a counterfeiter to them, that body does not deserve our support. It suggests they aren't serious, and if they aren't, why should we be?

I have had more luck with eBay; recently I bought what turned out to be a fake DVD. I reported the matter to eBay and PayPal. The former pulled the auction so it's no longer visible and the latter refunded my money. the seller has since been NARUd but had only been a user for about a month anyway, with 80-odd feedback in the time, so I've no doubt he/she'll be back.
