Lol our last collie could be left with any food
    wouldnt touch a thing
except butter! you could leave butter anywhere or it would be gone

A kettle's purpose is to boil water. It does that so is fit for purpose.

OP - explain to the retailer the issue. However, you do not actually have the legal right to a refund. I am, however, sure the retailer will be sympathetic.

I know this has been resolved but....

The kettle was bought to be filled with water, said water boiled, then boiling water poured out of kettle.

This the OP assumed it would do without any beeping. It was not bought for its beeping qualities. It was to be a silent non beeping kettle when moved. However it beeped when moved, therefore it was not fit for purpose.

If Monty Python ever get back together the above could form the basis of a sketch;)

I had to buy a kettle a while back. I just wanted a plain, plastic, 360 degree cordless base, fast boil kettle. No lights. No digital controls. Just those things. It was actually really hard to find one that did these things, and nothing else. I had to get one that lights up blue when it is on.
I had the same problem, and I had to get a kettle that glowed blue too!

I'm not quite sure why I need a glowing kettle, but I like it now.

Take your point but sadly it isn't how the law sees things. Take the example of a new car. Previous cases have shown that it cannot be rejected as being not fit for purpose if, e.g. the radio doesn't work, the paintwork is faulty, etc. It is still fit for the purpose of a car.

Not sure whats worse with the sandwich thing, the lack of ham, or the risk of dog slobber.....

It was bought to boil water, which it does, the beeping is a product feature and not a fault/defect. I assume the beep is to let people with bad eyesight know when they have replaced the kettle correctly, and I would be surprised if there wasn't a way to turn this feature off.

The OP made no real effort to see if the feature could be turned off. ("so i looked right at the base and didn't notice a switch, doesn't mean its not there!")

If anyone else is having a similar problem (I have a dog whose terrified of the smoke alarm too) you can desensitise most dogs to noise by making sure the noise triggers something really nice - like being thrown a piece of cooked chicken or similar. you'd have to do it time and time again, which should be quite easy with a kettle, probably starting off a good distance away from the kettle (perhaps in the garden) and gradually build up to being in the kitchen with the beeping kettle.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
