How do I (answers only please)

Lots of people are asking questions about 'how to do things' in the new technology.

I thought regulars may help me here. You will have seen the common questions as much as i have. If you know an answer to one, (or to one that hasn't been asked yet). Please would you write the 'how do I' answer in the thread.

After a while we'll get it collated and written up into a 'how do i guide'

By the way just to clarify this one is all about using the new Vbulletin forum, not MoneySaving.

And can we keep the 'discussion' to a minimum in this one - just 'how do i's'

To alter your signature .............click

'Quick Links'
(which is found directly under Welcome ***** at the top right of every page)

'Edit Signature'

To enable smileys and text enhancements:

Click 'User CP'
Click 'Edit Options' in Control Panel
Scroll to bottom of page to 'Miscellaneous Options'
Change option to 'Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing'
Click 'Save Changes'

How to Create a Poll:

You can create a poll when you post a new thread by simply clicking the 'Yes! post a poll' checkbox at the bottom of the page, and setting the number of possible responses you want to include.
After completing the title and text boxes click the submit button, you will be taken to the poll creation page, where you can specify the question and the list of responses you want to include.

You can also specify a time limit for the poll, so that (for example) it only stays open for voting for a week.

Then you can 'Preview' and 'Submit Reply' in the normal way.

Managing Private Messages:

You need to periodically delete old messages, both sent and received ones, as there is a limit of 50 messages that you can have in your folders. If you exceed this number of messages you will not be able to send or receive new messages until you delete some old messages. Use the drop-down box at the bottom of the page to either move or delete messages.

If you go to Quick links then Edit Options, there are options to:

Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images

which you can turn off (eg if you are on dial-up)

If you decide to turn images off, the images on the page will be shown as links - so you can still see them if you want to

How do i stop collecting subscriptions to threads that i reply to? Some are important, some are not so. Ive just found i am subscribed to every post i have commented on since the new style boards were up and running.
I would rather turn this option off if it is at all possible or do i have to manually delete them periodically, like the PMs?

OMG - I know, I know!!!

Go to Quick links and choose 'edit options'. Then you'll find a title 'default thread subscribtion modes.' You need to select the bit that says 'do not subscribe'

This didnt work for me sigh I still have a long list I'm subscribed to
