Sorry but I see nowt wrong with "On a purely personal note, I would be looking for another place pronto"
I do agree that rushing into the next accommodation is a bad idea which is exactly why I'd start looking (not leaving) the second I heard my current landlord was selling and then as soon as I found somewhere good I'd hand in notice and move on my terms. Waiting around to be served notice would cut down this flexibility. It should be fairly obvious to any landlord selling that a tenant may go quickly and that they may be without rental income while selling, the upside of which is they have access for viewings.
Well, I'm glad that we can agree that rushing into re-housing is not the wisest of actions. So, to rush into rehousing just so that you could "leave the LL with no income while he tries to find a buyer!" is, you must agree, foolish in the extreme.0 -

Me? Under reading? As I've said, I cannot read minds, and nore will I put words into the mouth of another. I just repeat, word for word, what the poster posted. That you seem to need to explain what she thought (How, I don't know) and how she felt leaves me thinking that you are either a) a psychic or b) just making it up or c) too stupid to know the difference. Which one is it, I wonder. I know where my money is.0 -

You, however, have filled your posts with what she was thinking, what you think she meant, in depth analysis of every possible nuance, in fact, just about everything you can think of to make what she actually typed seem like something different.

Hi OP,
This happened to us. We were in 1 day of a long-term let and I opened the door to an estate agent with a group of people behind him wanting to show them round. While we were signing a 6 month AST.. the owner decided to put it up for sale also.
I felt sick. really sick. We hadn't even had time to put curtains up and had moved 250 miles to this house. All the kids were just starting schools in thier catchment areas.
Loads of smooth talking from the estate agent about how it would be 'in our interests' to allow viewings as the owner 'may' sell to a btl who 'may' still 'keep us on' as tenants should I agree to viewings.
Well, frightened, ( hubby worked abroad) I did allow... ONE... viewing. It was raining cat's n dog's and I'd just walked my older kids to their new schools. Had my 6 month old baby in the pram. I spent 2 hours in my local Asda Cafe, with a crying baby ( breast-fed and no where to feed her) scared to go back to the house I was paying for !!!
Enough. Told the landlord ( or should I say lying 'yes it's a long term let' landlord ).. he could forget it. We'd see out the 6 months in PEACE and then if we had to move we would. But no more viewings under ANY circumstances bar safety checks.
Loads and loads of phone calls condesendingly agreeing that I could 'set aside' time periods for viewings.. but since I didn't drive, and not even the landlord could guarentee the weather on those 'set periods'.. ( I would've been wandering about aimlessly 3 times a week, with 4 kids in Scotland in winter !!! ). I also work from home too..I told them politely to stick it.
I'd rather move.
After which I simply ignored all phone calls from the estate/lettings agents. Answered politely even more emails from the landlord explaining why viewings weren't possible.. but was resolute that while I was paying for the place.. there would be no more Asda Cafe moments scared to go back to my own home. For me it was too intrusive. Especially with a breast-fed baby and 3 other children I wasn't prepared to be wandering about with in the rain 3 times a week..all so the landlord we were paying could sell the place more easily ?I would've been mad to agree to it I lost out either way. I took the lesser of 2 evils for me in that we may have had to move again.
We were there for 18 months...
My relationship with the landlord since ? And all the stuff about 'staying on good terms ? Who the hell cares ??
Since we have moved I've never had any dealings with him.It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0 -

Let's be clear facing viewings is a right pain, having to move to a LL's timetable is a pain, losing your home due a a LL selling is pain. No matter how you dress it up there is nowt wrong with a tenant facing a sale looking for a new home pronto and serving notice as soon as they can. I'd do exactly that regardless of the amount of cobblers you think it is and regardless of the amount of huffing you throw about it mucking up a tenant's bond return or references. Frankly I'm surprised any landlord putting the property up for sale would not expect a tenant to start looking for a new home asap.
I can see the headlines now: "Tenant from hell allows viewings but serves correct notice and leaves. Landlord out of pocket due to not getting rental income right up to the point of exchange".
Complements the headline: "Tenant from hell won't leave on exchange day".
What a shame they can't invent little plastic dolls who are prepared to pay 800pcm and get put back in the box the moment they're not wanted0 -

Renting a house or flat, if you think I should put up with telephone calls from the Landlord telling me they are selling, then the EA telling me they'll be needing a key cut so as to have access to show tenants around... and not feel aggrieved about it.. well you must be a landlord or something.
I'd refuse viewings - because it's my home during the tenancy - not a showhouse, and my priority would be finding somewhere else to live quickly. Not my life disturbed having strangers coming and going around my home on viewings - whether I'm at home or not.
Also for a landlord who asks that of me - or demands it, it would be natural I'd hope to find a better home to move to quickly, and leave the landlord kissing voids whilst they try to sell. Would you like to live your life on standby due to demand from another person they want to have unrestricted access to show viewers around your home - at unknown dates and times - and even whether you're in or out. You landlord gods can't have it all ways for your glory.0
