Maybe so - but just ask to pay £1.00 on the card and the rest in your usual payment method. Even paying a nominal amount of the purchase on your credit card will get you Section 75 protection, so long as the OVERALL PURCHASE is over £100.

I always do that on purchases over £100, and it's paid off.

Yes - you do need to be a little careful with making part credit card payments too as I've had travel companies stating that the % surcharge is on the total cost of the holiday (even if just paying a deposit). Archers Direct spring to mind (my last holiday). Not sure how they'd justify that though - but it's what their site states when you go to book or pay.

As others have said - the important thing is to check before you do anything silly (like spending on your credit card in France not realising that you're paying 3% on top of everything).

Hello all! Would you like a proper LTSB account manager to join the debate so you can all abuse me? (Thanks for the dippy remark by the way!)

The majority of account reviews I do for people end up giving them more interest (because they have outdated savings accounts with ltsb or other banks), better home insurance (because they have kept with the same company with the price increasing or 5k contents cover) or a better mortgage etc etc. I agree that they could probably get better deals on most of those things by coming to this website (as I do!) but 95% of people don't want the hassle. When I do get the odd MSE expert come in and show me all the great deals they've got, I congratulate them and send them on their way.

Saying all that, there are a few dodgy account managers out there and I'd suggest that the one that the OP saw might have been one of them as the branches can only offer 0% on balance transfers, LTSB have never done 0% on purchases! Gulp!!

Perhaps you'd do well to go on some product training?

Lloyds TSB are currently offering either 3 or 6 months 0% on purchases on two of their Mastercard offers.

Thats just online offers. No branch based cards give 0% on purchases.

Then I hope you are rediecting your customers to your website as it offers better deals?

I've been into Lloyds branches before and they have honoured website deals. Are you saying you can't do that now?

No, we only advise on branch deals. If someone comes in asking for an online deal, they should do it online. The reason it's a better deal is that they don't have to pay my wages to tell them about it!

So it's a rip off then?

I'd rather they saved on your wages and you stopped trying to flog unsuspecting customers inferior deals.

And stop annoying customers when they come into the branch. You can't set foot in there these days without someone trying to sell you sort form of insurance or other when all you're trying to do is pay in a cheque.

The PPI misselling that has gone on in Lloyds branches over the year by people in the same position as you is truly revolting.

The customer service has gone down the pan too - Indian call centre anyone?

Actually maybe I shouldnt have come on here as I'm just going to get abused by people who hate banks and think that all account managers do is trap people into dodgy loans, ppi and unnecessary credit cards. (But then I did invite you to!! :))

All I can say is that there are a few dodgy account managers out there, same as there are a few dodgy policemen, priests and popstars etc etc but I personally love my job, hope that I've never given anyone bad advice just for the commission (which as someone else said earlier, requires a maths degree and 24 hr days to get a sniff of any type of bonus these days anyway) and I enjoy talking to people about their lives and helping out. (Pssst, I've even suggested that a few people visit this site if Icouldn't help them out with certain things!)

Good - so you redirect them to your website for the better deals then?

    Though not.
