Firstly.. I can't believe there is even a thread on this subject. Why are you whinging about being charged for breakfast when you booked a self catering holiday? I would be happy to have received five free breakfasts due to a confirmation typo, and so should you be!

You were clearly expecting questions.. and glad none were asked!

If it was clear from the 1st day, why was there a second explaination needed? What EXACTLY was said on the first day?

To avoid confusion you should've doubble checked the situation with a manager.. clearly something you avoided doing as you knew breakfast two and three weren't to be included.

Would you have stuck to your typed confirmation if the ditzy reservation person had added a few zeros onto the room rate and the new accommodation price was £15,000?! Clearly not!

Upload the hotel's letter so we can see their side of the story, and how rude it was etc..

We have sent off our reply to the letter sent by the hotel manager, I dont think I should post the letter sent to us by them, but believe me I was quiet rude. I have been looking on trip adviser and they have a few comments about the hotel staff being very rude to some guests. See how it goes!

    £119 for two breakfasts?

What the in god's name did you eat - champagne and caviar?!

At 60 quid per breakfast, maybe I should get in the breakfast business ;)

!!!!!!? It's stated several times in this thread that there were 4 people, and 2 days, so it's 8 breakfasts they're being charged for!

    Booking Condition 3

    http://www.headlandcottages.co.uk/booking-conditions.php

3.On arrival a pre-authorisation of your credit card, of not less than £50 per day, will be required to cover extras, and any outstanding charges on departure will be debited. An inventory deposit of £150 will be taken and this will be held against damage, losses and excessive final cleaning. Your liability is not limited to £150.

As OP knowlingly knew a mistake had been made in the confirmation, they still indulged and ate breakfast they were not intitled to.

I would charge them double myself

Yet another new poster comes on here wearing Jack boots and thinks their rudeness will get us all to think their way.

I will not appease your sentiments in this matter, suffice to say the fact you booked self catering and stole breakfasts!

If they said they were going to honour the error and provide you with free breakfasts they should have made it clear about how many you would receive. If they wanted to charge you they should have mentioned it at the time of you checking out

Funny thing, Freddie, in your eyes a hotel typo should be 'honoured' by the customer - yet on the next thread a typo made by the customer is entirely their fault and they should pay the price!! You do enjoy being the thread 'dissenter' don't you?

To the OP, hope you get a satisfactory response - I wouldn't pay either. First, it was the hotel that made the error, second, they allowed you to eat for 2 subsequent days knowing that you hadn't requested breakfast orginally and that they had told you they would honour it!! If they failed to realise that you weren't expecting to pay then that is their error again. You were there 3 days, they had plenty of opportunity to give you a revised printed confirmation stating CLEARLY their offer.

Their attitude shows what poor managers they are - the cost of the breakfast to them would not be £119, in fact, in those buffet situations it probably cost them very little. But they will pay a high price for alienating a returning customer, and the bad press around that.

    Andy,

The point again is someone comes on here with Jack Boots wanting absolution! Are we expected to give in to these bullies?

    I for one do not

I'm quite surprised about this thread -we've stayed at the Headland and it was lovely, they must make an awful lot of money so to be quibbling over £100 or so is rather petty.

When we had breakfast the waiter was quite snooty though.

Well this is the main point isnt it. You should have stopped after wangling the first free breakfast when you knew it was a mistake and you had booked self catering (nice peace offering from them not to charge you for the first 'mistake' I say)

From reading all your threads you sound guilty of trying but getting caught, I would be cross (not rude) if I was the hotel and charge you. I wouldnt be on your side in court. And morally... you are totally in the wrong I would say, legally I dont know but read the post about the couple in the New Forest who went to CAB with theirs.

I say pay and dont let this get to court as they'll have you for breakfast... and you'll be paying :rotfl:

    :T haha

Case conculsion: morally and legally wrong. Some companies might waver £100, but not if they are !!!!ed off. You booked and paid for a self catering holiday that excluded breakfast (thats what matters, thats what the court will look at) then you went to breakfast. Even on that first day you were wrong to go, you know what you booked. If they had mistakenly confirmed a higher price on your accommodation you would have expected common sense to prevail - its a two way street.

Ps. you went back to the hotel because you liked it, why fall out with them?
