VHS to DVD

Thanks 1h8stress. I've managed to divide now

....... and if I get it wrong, will have to transfer the VHS to the HDD again as I can't re-combine divided titles, it says.
Rather than redoing a vhs, you can make a copy of a program you have put on the recorder hard-drive by creating a playlist. (Obviously you are best doing this BEFORE making any changes to it, like dividing etc.)
To Create A Playlist:
Click on 'title list' button.
Click on 'tools' button.
Click on Create Playlist
(Select a title to start capturing)
Scroll up/down to choose your program. Press Enter.
Click on 'Capture'. Press Enter.
The program starts to play. (If it is not at the beginning or you need to go forwards or backwards, use the forward/reverse buttons as you would on a video remote control, to position, then click Enter.
It will show Capture (Set IN point).
Use the forward button to fast forward to the finish.
Press Enter.
It will show Capture (Set OUT point).
A capture pop-up box appears 'do you want to capture the scene between IN 00:01 and OUT 07:05 (numbers are examples only). Click OK. Press Enter.
It will say 'capturing the scene please wait.
Scene List screen appears with the following options:
eg. 1 Cartoons OK Quit Add Preview
Select OK. Press Enter.
Enter the title name Cartoons OK Enter appears.
Click on OK. Press Enter.
(If you have not named the program yet eg. Cartoons, then click on Enter instead. Press Enter. Use the letters that appear to name your program. Click on finish).
It will say 'creating playlist please wait'.
Playlist created.
To access at anytime go to Tools button, click on Playlist. Press Enter.
To return to normal title list go to Tools button, click on Original. Press Enter.
PLEASE NOTE: You cannot delete a program from your title list if you have a copy (or part copy) of it in your playlist. You HAVE to delete the playlist copy first.

when I copy the 3 hours VHS, i'll have a whole hour of DVD left on one of the 2 DVD's I split that VHS on, so it's about dividing other VHS up - time consuming.
Do you only have one 3hr video tape? I try and combine 2x 3 hour tapes onto 3 disks if possible. (Depends what's on the tapes of course).
Alternatively I use A B erase to remove any adverts to try and get the time down further. (A B Erase will be the next lesson I post you on here:)
Interesting about the time left on the DVD - i'm glad I got a Sony now as I can get all your advice
Thanks
Just glad I can help someone on here - it's usually me posting questions:D
Take care0 -

Thanks for all the info. With the above and everything else, i'm still learning. I don't know what half the buttons do yet
Had one issue where a DVD wouldn't finalise. Kept trying but
Fortunately it was just the DVD and not the machine. 0 -
No probs Miroslav. I'm still learning myself (like a washing machine I never use ALL the programs on things, so usually have to refer to the instruction book at some point).
I've had dvd's that wouldn't finalise before (not sure if it's when they get too full) but I just check that they can play okay still.
Hope you've managed to cure your slow pc
